Department Summary

The Clark Honors College, University of Oregon, offers arts and letters, social science, and natural science courses to academically motivated undergraduates, essentially providing the experience of a small liberal arts college within the greater UO.

Position Summary

The Clark Honors College invites applications for Pro Tem Instructor positions in undergraduate arts and letters, social science, and natural science. The pool is for part‑time, temporary, limited‑duration teaching appointments not to exceed one year, but with the possibility of renewal for up to three years. Potential courses may include 200‑level and/or 400‑level undergraduate courses in arts and letters, social sciences, and natural sciences.
Successful candidates will have professional experience, demonstrated ability of quality teaching, and a commitment to working effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis. Screening of applications will take place as positions become available and continue until positions are filled.

Minimum Requirements
  • Ph.D. or appropriate terminal degree, in a relevant field, by the start of the position
  • Evidence of superior teaching ability

A bachelor's degree combined with a rich and extensive professional background relevant to the area of teaching may be substituted in rare circumstances.

Professional Competencies
  • Ability to contribute new course topics to the CHC curriculum
  • Ability to deliver professional, inclusive, engaged, and research‑informed teaching at the college level
  • Ability to contribute to the CHC through their understanding of the barriers facing members of groups underrepresented in higher education (including DACA students), as evidenced by professional experiences and/or educational background
  • Ability to engage students pursuing majors across the disciplines
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience creating and teaching interdisciplinary courses that appeal to a diverse range of students
  • Experience teaching core education or introductory courses
