Position Overview

Lane Community College’s Business, Technology, and Trades Division invites applications for an Instructional Specialist in the CNC Machining Program. The role is part-time, as needed, with variable work hours based on departmental requirements.

  • Hours: Variable; up to 40 hours per week and 1039 hours in a 12‑month period; typical schedule Tuesday–Thursday, 9:00 AM–4:00 PM.
Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of post‑secondary education in CNC/Manufacturing Technology or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Two (2) years of experience in machining or a related field.
  • Associate of Applied Science in CNC/Manufacturing technology preferred.
  • Familiarity with LCC course materials, methods, and procedures.
  • Experience teaching manufacturing at a community college and using Fusion 360 or other CAM software.
  • VA or disability status accepted; DD214/DD215 required if applicant is a veteran.
Essential Functions
  • Assist students in all CNC classes from basic through advanced, answering class questions and providing support on assignments.
  • Model effective study strategies, note‑taking, time management, and test preparation.
  • Maintain a positive, student‑centered learning environment and encourage a growth mindset.
  • Prepare and maintain lab materials, equipment, and supplies; keep the lab clean and organized.
  • Attend staff meetings, training, and advisory committee meetings.
  • Ensure safe work practices and follow OSHA and institutional guidelines.
  • Supervise student use of equipment and follow FERPA standards for confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervision
  • Reports to the department head; works independently with specialized training.

Physical Demands
  • Work in a fully operational CNC machining shop; lift up to 70 lbs.
  • Use a computer for more than two hours per day; work on concrete floor for more than six hours per day.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal communication.
  • Knowledge of CNC manufacturing principles and curriculum development.
  • Effective classroom instruction and student assessment.
  • Commitment to continuous professional growth.
Transcripts Instructions
  • Official or unofficial transcripts are required if post‑secondary education is listed.
  • Higher degrees than the requirement must also provide transcripts.
  • International degrees require evaluation for U.S. equivalency.
