The Finance Director provides vision, leadership, and oversight for all financial, budgeting, and accounting functions including leading a finance team of eight. This role is responsible for managing a $15M annual budget across a complex nonprofit accounting structure with multiple funding sources. The Finance Director serves as a key strategic partner to executive leadership and the Board, translating financial data for a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
EssentialFunctions & Responsibilities
- Provide strategic oversight of all financial and accounting operations
- Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
- Prepare and monitor monthly financial statements and reconciliations
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
- Develop, implement, and revise financial policies and procedures
- Lead annual agency-wide and program-specific audits
- Oversee grant and contract financial reporting and negotiations
- Maintain strong working relationships with auditors, funders, and the Board
- Supervise, coach, and develop finance staff
- Develop benchmarks, projections, and meaningful financial reports
- Collaborate with executive leadership on long-term strategic planning
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or higher (required)
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive nonprofit or government accounting experience (required)
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting and full-cycle bookkeeping
- Experience with grant budgeting, reporting, and compliance
- Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Ability to present complex financial data to non-financial audiences
- Proven ability to lead and mentor finance teams with high ethical standards
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and process-improvement skills
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and recordkeeping abilities
- TB test (provided by the organization)
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
