Peace Health is seeking a Part‑Time, 0.80 FTE Evening Mental Health Technician for its Psychiatric Unit.
Salary Range: $22.56 – $33.48 per hour.
Job SummaryParticipate with the nursing care team in providing quality, compassionate patient care with an emphasis on the care of the psychiatric patient.
Essential Functions- Participate in the care, observation, and documentation of all psychiatric patients, including daily living activities, vital signs, routine specimens, dressing, ambulation, and procedures; may include attending group therapy.
- Assist nursing staff with seclusion and/or restraint and observe secluded or restrained patients.
- Assist RN with receiving psychiatric patients by ambulance or law enforcement and triage, and assist with transport if assigned to the Emergency Department.
- Maintain patient care areas and equipment clean; maintain unit supplies by stocking patient rooms and supply areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Accredited Acute Care Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program required; EMT program if assigned to Emergency Department.
- College coursework in Psychology or related health field preferred.
- Minimum 1 year acute care or previous psychiatric experience.
- Minimum 1 year required: experience in an acute care psychiatric facility or equivalent recent experience caring for or managing individuals with behavioral health issues; or 20 shifts or more floating to the inpatient psychiatric unit as a CNA.
- Certified Nurse Assistant – Oregon Inpatient Psychiatric and Emergency Department Units required. EMT required in place of CNA for Emergency Department.
- Within 90 days Crisis Intervention Certification – Inpatient Psychiatric Unit required.
- Basic Life Support upon hire required.
- Knowledge of age‑specific principles of growth and development to meet each patient’s needs (required).
- Problem‑solving process (required).
- Good time management skills (required).
- Skill with psychiatric patients (required).
- Competence with patient de‑escalation, restraint and seclusion (required).
- Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs without assistive equipment (NIOSH).
- Fine motor skills to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
- Push/pull up to 45 lbs force (e.g., medical carts).
- Hand‑on CPR at least 20 mins using 100‑125 lbs; frequency seldom or occasionally.
- Ability to move around area with frequent sitting.
- Bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, kneeling frequently.
- Lifting non‑patient up to 20 lbs occasionally and 5 lbs frequently.
- Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
- Must complete tasks in a noisy environment.
- Vision and hearing required within normal limits.
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
