The Prevention Science Institute (PSI) is a multi-disciplinary institute focused on understanding human development, preventing behavioral health problems, and implementing effective interventions in community settings. PositionSummary
The Lab Manager (LM) will organize key research activities across federally‑funded human subjects projects led by Drs. Cioffi, De Anda, and Leve. These complex clinical trials involve community partnerships, contractual arrangements, and pilot developmental work with annual funding of 1–2 million dollars. The LM will work closely with Dr. Cioffi and investigative teams to ensure project metrics are met, to provide overall organization of the Community Outreach and Harm Reduction Research (COHR) Lab, and to sustain staff training, support, and institutional growth.
Responsibilities include day‑to‑day project oversight, training and supporting project coordinators and co‑investigators, coordinating COHR Lab proposals and amendments, managing budgets and spending plans, facilitating external research contracts, assisting in grant proposals and annual project reviews, handling data and material transfer agreements, coordinating approval processes across institutions, and overseeing start‑up activities of new projects. The LM will communicate scientific data to diverse audiences, manage competing priorities, and supervise project staff such as coordinators, data managers, programmers, and students.
Collaboration with PSI administrative units and external partners is essential, and the role requires flexibility, independent judgment, and familiarity with UO policies and federal regulations.
- BA/BS degree in Prevention Science, Social Work, Psychology, Management, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
- 3 years of leadership experience within a human subjects research lab or similar work environment.
- 3 years of project management experience related to research in higher education, research organizations, or a comparable setting.
- 3 years of supervisory experience.
- Experience conducting standardized assessments.
- Extensive experience with REDCap and Qualtrics data collection tools, Microsoft Office, and collaboration platforms such as Teams, Dropbox, One Drive, SharePoint, Zoom, and Concur Travel Software.
- Exceptional time‑management skills, strong attention to detail, and thoroughness.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with overlapping deadlines and frequent interruptions.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, with sensitivity, confidentiality, and diligence regarding personnel and human subjects information.
- Ability to engage with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and to represent PSI professionally with investigators, staff, administrators, students, and research participants.
- Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills, with the capacity to analyze, summarize, and present data effectively.
- Independent work ability within a collaborative team environment.
- Technical competence in managing and organizing computer data files, assessing FTP servers, and troubleshooting basic technical problems.
- Knowledge of university and government policies, rules, and regulations.
- Strong understanding of participant tracking databases and data use agreements.
- Experience working with both on‑site and remote teams.
- 2+ years of direct supervisory experience.
- 5+ years of participant recruitment experience.
- Experience collecting and/or overseeing the collection of human biospecimen samples (salivary cortisol, saliva DNA, blood spots).
