Youth Development Program Coordinator –
Eugene Family YMCA
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Youth Development Program Coordinator provides direct supervision to youth and teen spaces and programs for the new state‑of‑the‑art Eugene Family YMCA facility. They create positive, nurturing and cooperative relationships with youth, families, YMCA staff, school employees and community partners.
They provide direction for programs and implement quality programming. The YD Program Coordinator provides quality experience to staff, youth, and families that focus on the YMCA values caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. They promote and support the potential of all youth in programs and facilitate peer‑to‑peer connections as part of the overall youth development experience.
- This position requires a 40‑hour workweek, usually from Monday to Friday.
- Hours may vary depending on season and need.
- Some weekends and YMCA special events.
- Performs logistical and administrative functions and responsibilities related to program coordination for Family Events, Play Zone, Kid Zone, and the Teen and Youth Space.
- Develops age‑appropriate program outlines that meet Y and developmental objectives; schedules facilities and equipment for planned activities.
- Works with Marketing & Communications and other departments to promote and market activities.
- Oversees and ensures the safety of the activity environment, implementing safety and emergency plans and responding to potential hazards.
- Manages activity registration, room set up, and clean up.
- Collaborates with community organizations to enhance the quality of the programs and strengthen existing programs and develop new programs.
- Develops programs and strategies to recruit and engage youth 5‑17 with new programs.
- Oversees day‑to‑day operation of youth and teen center including supervising staff and volunteers; ordering and inventorying supplies and equipment; creating, implementing, and evaluating programs; and serving as a leader and resource for teen groups.
- Enhances communication surrounding teen programming both internally and externally in ways best received by teens.
- Maintains up‑to‑date knowledge about trends in teen programming, generational needs and challenges, and current events in teen culture to influence programming decisions that are relevant and effective.
- Coordinates member and community engagement programs including, but not limited to, Family nights, E‑sports, Ninja Zone, Teen Nights, and Youth Nights.
- Provides direct leadership to program participants; provides a program/class atmosphere that promotes and encourages inclusion, positive youth development, and satisfaction of all participants.
- Coordinates and assists with special events planning.
- Collaborates with youth and staff, creating a safe space for all input and ideas to be heard, fully considered and encouraged.
- Creates and builds a strong community for the teen population via special events, series and workshops.
- Develops and maintains engaging new activity and enrichment programs that continue to meet the changing needs and demands of local teens and youth.
- Ensures that a culture of acceptance prevails and that all young people experience an environment that fosters personal growth.
- Creates and develops unique teen engagement programming that fosters connectedness.
- Develops and maintains good public relations and works cooperatively with YMCA staff, youth, school administrators, families, and the community.
- Works with all staff to promote YMCA membership, programs and services.
- Works with Community Engagement Specialist to program spaces.
- Assists with resolving participant behavior issues.
- Trains and mentors volunteers, students, interns and new staff.
- Communicates with program supervisor in an appropriate and timely manner about the ongoing participant, family, and school staff requests.
