Bushnell University provides a holistic Christian education, fostering wisdom, faith, and service in its students. The university is seeking a Groundskeeper to join its staff.
The Groundskeeper will be responsible for the year-round maintenance of the campus grounds, including:
- Operating riding mowers and walk-behind mowers, edger, backpack blower, garden tractor, hedge trimmers, and other power equipment as required.
- Operating a ¾-ton pickup truck with manual transmission while pulling a utility trailer.
- Raking leaves, weeding, maintaining flowerbeds.
- Pruning shrubs and small ornamental trees, including climbing ladders and/or operating a lift while pruning.
- Servicing and installing irrigation.
- Landscape construction and planting of flowerbeds, shrubs, and trees.
- Using hand tools.
- Digging and trenching.
- Fertilizer application
- Snow removal
- Event setup
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Supervisory duties may include the supervision of student workers. The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, be able to follow direction, and have an eye for detail. Good communication skills and safe, efficient, and responsible work habits are essential.
Requirements include:
- Professional experience of 1 – 3 years (or equivalent).
- A valid Oregon driver’s license and the ability to drive a pickup truck while pulling and/or backing a utility trailer.
- Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling. Lifting up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to use a ladder safely, including pruning/orchard ladders, extension ladders, and step ladders, within their operating range.
- Basic computer competence.
- A desire to expand horticultural knowledge and technique.
- A passion for gardening and a desire to serve God in a Christian work environment.
