Summary

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Maintenance Technician with a specialized focus on ammonia and refrigeration systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of ammonia refrigeration systems and related equipment to ensure smooth operations at our facility. Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Technician will work to ensure the safety, efficiency, and reliability of refrigeration systems critical to production operations.

Key Responsibilities Ammonia & Refrigeration System Maintenance
  • Perform regular maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting of ammonia refrigeration systems and associated equipment.
  • Ensure all refrigeration systems are running efficiently and in compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Monitor the performance of refrigeration units and make adjustments as necessary to maintain proper functioning.
  • Maintain refrigeration compressors, evaporators, condensers, and other components to ensure optimal performance.
Emergency Troubleshooting & Repair
  • Quickly respond to breakdowns and failures in ammonia refrigeration systems, diagnosing and resolving issues promptly.
  • Perform emergency repairs and preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and production disruptions.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all safety protocols, particularly in handling ammonia and ensuring compliance with OSHA and environmental safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of ammonia refrigeration system inspections, maintenance activities, and repairs.
  • Assist in safety audits and inspections to ensure the facility is in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Collaboration & Communication
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Manager and other team members to coordinate preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Communicate effectively with production teams to ensure minimal disruption during maintenance activities.
  • Provide technical support and training to other staff as needed on refrigeration system operation and safety practices.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain detailed records of repairs, replacements, and preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure all maintenance and repair activities are accurately documented in the maintenance management system.
Continuous Improvement
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system performance and reliability.
  • Recommend and implement upgrades or modifications to refrigeration systems to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Required Qualifications Experience & Knowledge
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in maintenance with a focus on ammonia refrigeration systems or other industrial refrigeration systems.
  • Strong understanding of ammonia refrigeration system components, operation, and safety.
  • Experience in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining industrial refrigeration systems and equipment.
Technical Skills
  • Certification in ammonia refrigeration (such as RETA’s Certified Ammonia Refrigeration Operator or equivalent) preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems related to refrigeration.
  • Experience with refrigeration controls, compressors, and evaporators.
Safety & Compliance
  • In-depth knowledge of safety standards, including ammonia handling, OSHA regulations, and environmental guidelines.
  • Ability to work safely with ammonia and other hazardous materials.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, tools, and materials (up to 50 lbs).
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments, including indoor and outdoor settings, with temperature variations.
Preferred Skills
  • EPA certification for refrigerants (Type 2 or Universal) preferred.
  • Forklift certification or the ability to obtain one.
Problem-Solving Skills
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically and resolve complex maintenance issues.
Team Player
  • Ability to work well within a team, collaborating effectively with colleagues in maintenance and production.
Work Environment
  • The role will involve working in both an office and manufacturing environment, with significant time spent in the refrigeration equipment areas and production floor.
  • The position will require exposure to cold temperatures and handling ammonia in accordance with safety protocols.
