- the main responsibility of this position is to brush cut and mow along county roads to help prevent fires.
- summer hours: m-th, 6:30am to 5:00pm, 1/2 hour lunch
- winter hours: m-f, 7:30am to 4:00pm, 1/2 hour lunch
- drives construction equipment to and from job sites; loads and unloads equipment from trucks; operates a variety of construction equipment including gradalls, graders, transporters, dozers, rock crushers, front-end loaders, motor rollers, pavers and related equipment.
- sets up, operates, maintains and disassembles crusher equipment; monitors crusher operations; performs specialized crusher repair and maintenance work.
- inspects equipment, performs preventive maintenance and reports needed repairs.
- excavates, backfills, grades and rolls construction and repair sites.
- loads materials and supplies.
- operates equipment used in road maintenance and construction, earth moving and grading; cuts to grade.
- checks job sites for potential hazards; reads blueprints, plans and cut sheets; determines precautions necessary for safe operations.
- performs manual tasks such as constructing fences and guardrails, spreading gravel and sand and/or various other support functions for the road crews; performs manual labor duties in the construction, maintenance and repair of roads and their appurtenances.
- may direct placement of necessary safety and traffic control devices; observes safety precautions related to the work.
- makes operating adjustments and minor repairs to equipment such as changing buckets and teeth and tightening loose bolts and hydraulic couplings.
- secures equipment upon completion of work.
- prepares a variety of basic records and reports.
- operates a variety of hand and power tools related to the work.
- may direct the work of a crew on a relief basis.
- responds to emergency calls in off-hours as required.
- operation, work methods and limitations of heavy construction equipment used in road repair maintenance and construction.
- safe work practices and safety regulations pertaining to the operation and transportation of the equipment.
- preventive maintenance and minor repair methods related to the equipment.
- measurement of elevations and grades.
- use and maintenance of a variety of hand and power tools related to the work.
- earth-compacting techniques.
- operating, adjusting and maintaining heavy construction equipment.
- operating and maintaining a variety of hand and power tools and equipment used in the work.
- cutting to grades and reading survey markers.
- recognizing potentially hazardous conditions on the job site or with the equipment.
- keeping basic written records and reports.
- understanding and following oral and written instructions.
- exercising independent judgment and initiative without close supervision.
- establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.

:must possess a valid california driver's permit and obtain a class a license within 30 days. Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds. Must be willing to work out of doors in all weather conditions. Must be willing to work overtime or off-hours shifts in emergency situations. Must be willing to work with exposure to potentially hazardous substances and to traffic.
