Summary

This is a part time position positing to gather a pool of qualified applicants for possible openings in Foreign Language (Spanish) classes.

Teaching assignments likely to be face-to-face on the Eureka campus.

Teaching/Nonteaching Responsibilities
  • Duties and responsibilities of the assignment are delineated in specific job descriptions and/or department procedure manuals and are performed effectively.
  • Show currency and depth of knowledge in the discipline and/or area of assignment.
  • Demonstrate patience, fairness, and promptness in the evaluation and discussion of student work.
  • Show sensitivity and responsiveness to the needs of individual students and their special circumstances, when appropriate.
  • Show sensitivity to and knowledge of the diverse ways students learn and be responsive to individual needs.
  • Use effective written and oral communication skills with students and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate effective organizational skills in the classroom and/or work site.
  • Exercise effective judgment in following college policy.
  • For faculty with teaching assignments, use teaching methods and materials that are challenging to the student and appropriate to the subject matter, consistent with departmental curriculum, while encouraging a variety of successful pedagogical approaches to learning within the department.
  • For faculty with nonteaching assignments, fulfill responsibilities in terms of: a) communication and coordination with students, colleagues, and administrators; b) quality of work; and, if appropriate, c) program development, budget planning and implementation, program leadership, and collegial governance.
  • Ensure currency and appropriateness of curriculum, course outlines, and written materials.
  • Ensure that the following are incorporated into materials in the area of assignment: communication skills, computational skills, critical thinking, and cultural diversity.
  • Adhere to state and federal regulations applicable to area of assignment.
  • Additional Responsibilities ( Teaching/Nonteaching )
  • Participate, where appropriate, in peer mentoring and evaluation processes and demonstrate objectivity in the professional evaluation of colleagues.
  • Meet contractual obligations, including advising and maintaining regular office hours, when applicable to the position.
  • Demonstrate responsibility in fulfilling division/department obligations and other district requirements.
  • Participate in professional growth activities, such as workshops, seminars, conferences, publications, artistic exhibits, performances, research, or other activities appropriate to assignment.
  • Provide leadership and demonstrate commitment to the profession through activities such as involvement in professional organizations, participation in collegial governance, college committees, campus activities, development of new curriculum, classroom research, or other appropriate activities.
  • Work with colleagues to provide an educational program and environment that supports the success of each student, and otherwise implement the college philosophy and mission statement.
  • Participate in program review and accreditation processes.

  • Knowledge & Skills

    Beginning and intermediate courses that present the fundamentals of Spanish and provide the tools for students to acquire elementary and mid to high intermediate linguistic proficiency. The courses emphasize the communicative use of all language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Special emphasis is placed on providing insights into the cultural diversity of the foreign language-speaking world.

    Teaching assignments may include night and weekend assignments and teaching courses online or via distance education.
