Customer Service Rep
Job Overview
Provide an exceptional shopping experience and friendly and welcoming environment for all members, customers, and co‑workers. This role includes greeting customers, ensuring prompt and authentic service, offering product assistance, maintaining a calm demeanor, and responding to inquiries promptly.
Responsibilities- Greet and interact with customers, model and ensure they receive prompt, helpful, and friendly service in accordance with the Co‑op’s customer service standards.
- Ensure customers receive appropriate assistance in locating products throughout the store, seeking opportunities to exceed expectations.
- Maintain a calm and friendly demeanor with all customers and employees in all situations.
- Investigate and respond to customer questions and requests promptly, escalating to management as needed.
- Produce daily from‑scratch hot and cold food for deli areas, following food safety and quality standards.
- Follow established recipes and maintain production schedules to meet quality, quantity, and freshness requirements.
- Test ingredients and finished products for quality compliance.
- Assist customers with food allergies and special diets, helping them select appropriate foods.
- Accurately identify allergens on labels and correct errors promptly.
- Maintain fresh, attractive, and garnished prepared food displays and keep stations clean.
- Receive and process special orders, including checking orders board and fulfilling in a timely manner.
- Assist in new employee onboarding and cross‑training.
- Maintain clean workstations, handle dishware, and keep equipment in good condition.
- Perform sanitation and safety procedures, including reporting equipment issues.
- Support other departments with inventory counts and store‑wide cleaning.
- Answer phone calls and route them, taking messages as required.
- Outstanding customer service and communication skills.
- Knowledge and experience in food service and commercial food production.
- Understanding of scratch food production, cooking and baking techniques.
- Possession of SERV SAFE or Food Handlers certification, or ability to obtain within first month.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and remain flexible in a fast‑paced deli and bakery environment.
- Operational skills for kitchen equipment.
- Ability to read recipes and understand measurements and abbreviations.
- Availability for all production shifts.
- Strong math and organizational skills.
- Compliance with department policies and health and safety guidelines.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to adapt to change.
- Maintain confidentiality and positive relationships with vendors.
- Commitment to sustainability initiatives.
- Ability to work late night or early morning shifts.
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Push/pull bins and racks up to 100 lbs.
- Work at a fast pace, bend, stoop, reach, and lift loads not exceeding 75 lbs.
- Use hands repetitively for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
Fast‑paced deli and bakery production areas and retail floor. May work near moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, and varying temperature conditions. Requires tolerance for moderate to loud noise. Occasional travel within Arcata and Eureka.
Customary Work ScheduleVaried schedule including early, late, and weekend shifts with occasional overtime. Regular and prompt attendance and punctuality are essential.
