The Division of Science and Mathematics at Eureka College invites applications for a full‑time position in Biology at the rank of Assistant Professor, starting August 2026. The successful candidate will teach 24 credits annually, advise biology, clinical lab science, and pre‑professional majors, and occasionally mentor senior thesis projects as part of the college’s Honors Program. The faculty may be required to participate in interdisciplinary programs including the first‑year seminar and general‑education science courses such as 10 Essentials.
This position may be offered as a 1‑year Visiting Assistant Professor with potential for tenure‑track if qualifications are not met on day one.
- Teach 12 credit hours each semester (24 credits per academic year) of undergraduate biology coursework.
- Courses to include Principles of Biology I and II, Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II, and either Molecular and Cellular Biology or Microbiology.
- Future courses may include Microbiology, Genetics, Computational Biology, Botany or Plant Science, Soil Science, Research Methods, and Comparative Anatomy.
- Serve on college committees and participate in faculty governance.
- Supervise undergraduate honors theses and research projects.
- Assist in recruiting prospective students.
- Propose innovations to the Biology program to meet current job market demands and student interests.
May supervise student workers.
Education- Ph.D. in Biology or related field, or ABD with requirements completed by August 1, 2024.
- Master’s applicants may be considered for a Visiting Assistant Professor 1‑year appointment.
Previous teaching experience at higher education institutions.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities- Effective communicator.
- Highly organized.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and electronic mail.
Salary Range: $45,000 – $55,000 annually.

Working ConditionsThe position requires occasional standing, walking, or sitting, lifting up to 25 pounds, and working in a quiet to moderate noise environment.
Work ScheduleNormal workdays Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, including a one‑hour lunch. Some flexibility for evening or weekend hours is required.
