Position Summary

Support the company in developing well‑thought‑out and practicable HSE related policy and procedures to ensure the mitigation of risk of harm to employees and the environment, while regularly engaging with employees and leaders to promote a healthy, safe, and sustainable working environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Environmental (Primary Focus)
  • Lead environmental compliance and permitting across multiple sites, ensuring adherence to U.S. EPA, Canadian, provincial, and state regulations, and manage all required reporting and record‑keeping for air, water, and waste.
  • Conduct environmental audits and inspections, including sustainability‑focused reviews, and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Lead environmental and sustainability projects to reduce waste, emissions, and energy use, ensuring initiatives are completed on time, within budget, and to standard.
  • Provide technical guidance on environmental matters, identify risks and opportunities across HEPI activities, and support the HSE team on incidents and hazard management.
  • Maintain risk assessments, compliance and environmental records, and ensure policies and procedures remain current with HEPI Group standards and legislation.
  • Serve as the primary contact for environmental agencies, auditors, clients, and community stakeholders to address environmental concerns and maintain positive relationships.
  • Develop and implement Environmental improvement projects, propose to Senior Leadership and include in budgeting cycles for funding.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the Environmental legislative and support programs from the State and Federal Governments.
  • Train site teams on environmental responsibilities and best practices.
  • Contribute to the overall aims of the HSE Department across all initiatives.
Safety (Supporting Function)
  • Support site safety programs to ensure alignment with OSHA standards, Canadian health and safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Assist with safety inspections, risk assessments, hazard analyses, and incident investigations, including follow‑up on corrective actions.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of safety training, toolbox talks, and awareness sessions. Provide guidance to supervisors on safety tools and processes as needed.
  • Collaborate with site leadership to reinforce a proactive safety culture by participating in pre‑shift meetings and engaging in field safety discussions.
  • Help maintain safety documentation, including risk registers, non‑conformance logs, policies, and procedures, ensuring records remain current and accurate.
  • Support internal and external safety audits and assist with preparing documentation and tracking corrective actions.
  • Assist in maintaining emergency preparedness activities such as first aid kits, fire evacuation procedures, and drills.

Other duties as assigned such as compliance, projects and overall EH&S functions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in environmental compliance, permitting, and sustainability programs, with exposure to health and safety support.
  • Professional certification(s) is strongly preferred (e.g. REM, REP, CEM, CSP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent).
  • OSHA 30‑hour certification strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. EPA regulations, Canadian environmental legislation, OSHA General Industry standards, and applicable provincial/state health and safety requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills; able to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Ability to travel locally and nationally, with occasional international travel as needed.
