Salas O’Brien is seeking a motivated Civil Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary design firm in Evansville, IN.
The qualified applicant will have the opportunity to engage in all phases of a project from inception to completion of construction. This involvement is intended to grow individuals and nurture design talents.

Your role will include building and managing relationships with in-house teams and contractors while providing design and consulting services that are needed by facility managers and owners. The types of projects that you will work on will include:
- Office Facilities
- Educational Facilities
- Warehouses
- Manufacturing Facilities

As a Civil Engineer for projects, you will be required to demonstrate a high standard of professionalism and client focus/customer service; be resourceful and flexible, effective at handling multiple tasks; have good computer skills; have strong presentation, written and verbal skills; and be able to effectively be delegated to while working in a collaborative format with multiple team members.
ResponsibilitiesYou will be required to:
- Listen to our clients’ needs and provide value to them by evaluating options based upon the client’s needs and desires, first cost and life cycle cost.
- Communicate your design recommendations to our project team, construction contractors and vendors in presentations, meetings, via email and phone as necessary.
- Work alone on projects or work on a project team with other technical staff to design and detail new systems that are needed, assuring that the work is accurate and coordinated, and that the quality assurance measures have been followed.
- Provide timely services that meet the needs of the clients and the overall project schedule requirements.
Specifically, you will be required to:
- Participate in the pursuit of projects for new and existing clients by meeting with them to discuss the projects, conducting presentations and writing proposals.
- Perform Civil design calculations following office standards.
- Stay abreast of new design and analysis technologies and building materials through continuing education activities.
Specific design related services include:
- Overall site planning
- Site grading and volume calculations
- Storm water pollution control systems
- Gravity sewer design
Applicants should have a minimum of a BS in Civil Engineering with 1-4 years of experience in the design of industrial, municipal, and commercial facilities. Applicants should have a working knowledge of Civil analysis and design software (specifically Civil 3D preferred).
Physical and Ergonomic Requirements- Lifting/carrying:
Carrying light loads related to field measurement equipment, equipment cases weighing 15 lbs. or less. - Dexterity:
Ability to type using a keyboard with relative efficiency, ability to make handwritten notes and sketches indoors and outdoors at industrial plant and construction sites at any time of the year. - Walking/Climbing:
Ability to use multi‑level stair towers and rung ladders unassisted. - Visual Acuity:
Ability to discern single line and 3-dimensional computer images representing objects being designed or drafted. - Hearing:
Ability to hear safety alarms and signals while wearing hearing protection. - Physical exertion:
Ability to walk up to one mile on industrial plants and construction sites outdoors at any time of the year. Ability to work in protective clothing which may elevate body temperatures by several degrees Fahrenheit for periods of up to 15 minutes without a break. - Breathing:
Ability to work while wearing a respirator or self‑contained breathing apparatus.
Preferred
EducationBachelors or better in Civil Engineering.
Experience1‑4 years of experience in the design of industrial, municipal, and commercial facilities.
