Salary Range: $64,000 provisional license / $67,000 full license (annual salary)

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services, the Staff Psychologist provides direct mental health services to the eligible student population. Services include psychoeducation, diagnostic assessments, crisis management, treatment planning, and group and individual evidence‑based intervention. The role supports outreach to the USI campus community and the greater Evansville community. All clinical contacts and services are documented promptly and in accordance with professional standards.

The psychologist delivers globally competent services consistent with established standards of care while adhering to legal and ethical guidelines.

Duties / Responsibilities
  • Assess mental health needs through diagnostic evaluations, clinical observation, psychometric instruments, and other clinically indicated means; establish diagnoses per DSM‑5.
  • Apply knowledge of mental health theories, global competencies, psychopathology, and clinical research to develop client‑centered treatment plans for a range of concerns within a developmental context.
  • Provide evidence‑based individual and group interventions, offering services in‑person and via tele‑behavior health.
  • Work from a time‑limited psychotherapy model and maintain a full caseload in collaboration with the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services.
  • Develop therapeutic relationships, assess progress, and explore alternatives as needed.
  • Deliver assessment and treatment services sensitively and competently to all student populations.
  • Document all clinical services promptly and according to professional standards.
  • Assess risk, provide crisis intervention, and coordinate higher‑level care when clinically indicated.
  • Adhere to scope of practice consistent with competencies, education, training, experience, and legal standards.
  • Maintain and enhance professional competencies through workshops, conferences, certifications, and professional associations.
  • Offer outreach and supportive programming to promote mental health awareness.
  • Provide regular and emergency consultation to faculty, staff, and other concerned parties.
  • Perform duties of specialized focus as assigned based on training and experience.
  • Other duties logically associated with the position may be assigned.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Ph.D. or Psy.

    D. in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA‑approved doctoral program; ABD considered.
  • Licensed Psychologist with HSPP designation in Indiana.
  • Generalist training required.
  • Strong knowledge of mental health theory, research, and practice.
  • Extensive knowledge of psychopathology and developmental issues among traditional and non‑traditional students.
  • Knowledge of tele‑behavior health, including licensure limits, ethics, safety, technology, and confidentiality.
  • Skilled in assessment and treatment of multiple presenting concerns and diagnoses.
  • Strong knowledge of Indiana mental‑health law.
  • Creativity in developing education programs for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and collaborative orientation within the Counseling Center, Student Affairs, and the university community.
  • Responsive to high demand and crisis situations.
  • Basic computer skills; experience with Titanium Schedule desirable.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
  • APA‑approved pre‑doctoral internship preferred.
  • Specialized skills for working with specific student populations or particular presenting concerns.
  • Experience with substance abuse, group therapy, supervision of practicals/internships, or serving underserved and under‑resourced populations.
  • Experience in a university/college counseling center strongly preferred.
Regular Work Hours / Travel Requirements
  • Standard office hours:
    Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm.
  • Irregular hours, including nights and weekends, may be required.
