Cybersecurity, Systems Engineer
We are seeking a Network Security Manager to lead a team of engineers and contractors responsible for safeguarding the organization's network and cloud environments. In this role, you'll manage daily operations, guide technical decision-making, cultivate team growth, and ensure the consistent and secure delivery of foundational network-security functions.
The ideal candidate is a balanced thinker-technically fluent across modern network-security platforms and skilled in coaching, delegation, prioritization, and cross-team coordination. This is a hands-on leadership role where strategic clarity and operational excellence intersect.
Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities
Leadership & People Management
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of Network Security Engineers and contractors, fostering professional growth and technical depth.
- Delegate daily operational tasks, project work, and service requests based on skillset and priority.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching, and support career development plans.
- Establish team workflows, documentation standards, and operational best practices.
- Build a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and technical curiosity.
Operational Management & Execution
- Oversee daily operations of the network-security program, including firewall rule management, SASE policy administration, NAC enforcement, IPAM governance, and microsegmentation policies.
- Coordinate incident response for network-security-related events and collaborate with the Cybersecurity, Cloud, and Network Engineering teams.
- Review complex technical implementations for potential risk, impact, or unintended dependencies.
- Ensure changes follow enterprise change-management protocols and undergo proper risk evaluation.
- Maintain the reliable availability of core security platforms, monitor system health, and address operational issues.
- Support hands-on tasks during escalations, outages, or peak project workloads.
Planning, Prioritization & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with architecture, cybersecurity, and infrastructure teams to align network-security strategy with enterprise objectives.
- Prioritize engineering tasks, projects, and backlog items in coordination with PMO or technology leadership.
- Participate in roadmap planning for network-security tooling, automation, and infrastructure modernization.
- Communicate project status, operational updates, and risks to leadership and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate new technologies and design secure network architectures.
Technical Oversight & Governance
- Provide subject-matter guidance on firewall architectures, cloud network-security controls, segmentation, packet-flow behavior, and secure network design principles.
- Oversee SASE configuration and policy lifecycle, ensuring visibility, compliance, and performance optimization.
- Manage IPAM governance, including address plans, DHCP/DNS standards, and lifecycle management.
- Oversee NAC platforms, authentication policies, device-profiling logic, and onboarding workflows.
- Ensure microsegmentation policies are aligned with application tiers, risk levels, and least-privilege strategies.
- Validate that security controls meet compliance, audit, and regulatory requirements.
- Promote automation opportunities and reduce manual operational overhead.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Solid understanding of core networking concepts (routing, switching, TCP/IP, VPNs, DNS, DHCP).
- Proficiency in network-security technologies, including firewalls (on-prem and cloud-native), SASE frameworks, NAC platforms, and microsegmentation.
- Familiarity with cloud architectures and their associated security controls (AWS/Azure).
- Understanding of identity-centric security models and zero-trust architectures.
- Awareness of compliance frameworks and regulatory considerations (e.g., PCI-DSS, FFIEC, SOX).
Skills
- Strong leadership and team-building capabilities.
- Effective verbal and written communication, including the ability to translate technical impacts for non-technical audiences.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail in risk analysis.
- Skilled prioritization and project coordination across multiple concurrent initiatives.
- Ability to lead incident response activities and drive root-cause analysis.
- Competence in reviewing and validating complex network-security changes.
- Skill in stakeholder communication, negotiation, and expectation management.
Abilities
- Balance strategic vision with daily operational needs.
- Mentor engineers with diverse skill levels.
- Understand unfamiliar technologies and evaluate their impact.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive consensus.
- Stay calm and decisive during incidents or high-pressure scenarios.
- Uphold high standards of documentation, process discipline, and operational rigor.
