Position Overview:

Under supervision, Trimmers maintain trees for public safety. The role involves pruning, cutting, removing, and caring for trees while adhering to safety guidelines and legally mandated procedures. The position may involve hazards such as working near traffic, falling limbs, and energized power lines.

This class receives on-the-job training and specific day‑to‑day directions.

Responsibilities include:

• Tree pruning, removal, brush chipping, and stump grinding
• Using climbing hooks, belts, ropes, and ladders
• Operating and servicing equipment such as hydraulic tools, power tools, buckets, chippers, and sprayers
• Cutting away dead and excess branches
• Spraying to treat diseased or unhealthy trees, including mixing chemicals and calibrating spray equipment

In addition to all duties listed above, responsibilities include:

• Identifying tree species and characteristics of trees

In addition to all duties listed above, responsibilities include:

• Assessing tree failure risk
• Assisting with training other trimmers

In addition to all duties listed above, responsibilities include:

• Leading crew and providing training to other trimmers

All Trimmer Levels

• Understanding of occupational hazards and safety precautions
• Semi‑skilled in mechanics
• Ability to complete a proficiency test (climbing, knot tying, chainsaw maintenance)
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record per Company requirements
• May be required to pass a DOT physical examination to obtain the appropriate CDL
• Knowledge of essential job functions and responsibilities
• Attention to detail; organizational skills; strong oral and written communication
• Problem‑solving ability
• Meet all physical requirements of the position
• Pass all drug and alcohol screens per Company policy and DOT regulations
• 18 years of age or older, or 21 if CDL is required
• Legally authorized to work in the United States

Trimmer D/4th & C/3rd Class –

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with a tree care/maintenance program, including operation of stump grinders, chippers, chipper trucks, bucket trucks, and other tree‑related equipment

Trimmer B/2nd & A/1st Class –

Required qualifications:

• Experience with a tree care/maintenance program, including operation of stump grinders, chippers, chipper trucks, bucket trucks, and other tree‑related equipment
