Position Title: Quality Manager I or II

Reports To: General Manager
The Quality Manager is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the quality management system in a heavy fabrication environment. This role ensures that all fabricated components—including structural steel, heavy plate, CNC-machined parts, tanks, and pressure vessels—meet or exceed industry standards, customer specifications, and applicable codes. The position leads QA/QC inspections both in-house and at subcontractor facilities, manages compliance documentation, and supports project quality from bidding through final delivery.
KeyResponsibilities
Lead inspection activities for welded, machined, and fabricated products in accordance with ASME, AWS, and customer specifications.
Manage all quality assurance personnel and ensure effective implementation of the quality management system across all projects.
Establish and enforce quality standards specific to heavy fabrication, welding procedures, and pressure vessel integrity.
Oversee quality documentation, including inspection records, material traceability, testing reports, and project-specific quality plans.
Monitor production and quality activities to ensure conformance, cost efficiency, and schedule alignment.
Support project teams during pre-bid, fabrication, and final delivery phases with quality-related insights and compliance strategies.
Investigate non-conformities, perform root cause analysis, and lead corrective and preventive action initiatives.
Maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external clients, including third-party inspectors and regulatory agencies.
Develop and conduct training programs on welding standards, inspection criteria, and QA/QC procedures.
Provide technical guidance on NDE methods, weld procedures, and customer acceptance criteria.
Travel as needed to support shop inspections, field audits, client meetings, and training sessions.
In-depth understanding of structural and pressure vessel fabrication codes including AWS D1.1, D1.5, ASME Section VIII, and AISC.
Proficient in nondestructive testing (NDT) methods including VT, PT, MT, and UT; able to evaluate reports and oversee procedures.
Strong decision-making and root-cause analysis skills.
Highly organized with strong time management and reporting capabilities.
Effective written and verbal communication, including report writing and customer correspondence.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, weld maps, specifications, and technical standards.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel) and familiarity with Procore or similar project management platforms.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Welding Technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
Minimum of 5 years in a QA/QC management role within a heavy fabrication or industrial manufacturing environment.
AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential required.
Experience with USACE, DOT, or similarly regulated projects is strongly preferred.
Familiarity with quality audits, third-party inspections, and compliance reporting in a manufacturing or fabrication setting.
Willingness to travel to job sites, vendor locations, and customer facilities as needed.
Ability to work in a fabrication shop environment, including navigating around equipment and machinery.
Ability to sit, stand, bend, walk, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs as required.
Must be able to speak, read, and write English fluently.
