Position Summary

The Quality Manager is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the quality management system in a heavy fabrication environment. This role ensures that all fabricated components—including structural steel, heavy plate, CNC-machined parts, tanks, and pressure vessels—meet or exceed industry standards, customer specifications, and applicable codes. The position leads QA/QC inspections both in-house and at subcontractor facilities, manages compliance documentation, and supports project quality from bidding through final delivery.

Key

Responsibilities
  • Lead inspection activities for welded, machined, and fabricated products in accordance with ASME, AWS, and customer specifications.

  • Manage all quality assurance personnel and ensure effective implementation of the quality management system across all projects.

  • Establish and enforce quality standards specific to heavy fabrication, welding procedures, and pressure vessel integrity.

  • Oversee quality documentation, including inspection records, material traceability, testing reports, and project-specific quality plans.

  • Monitor production and quality activities to ensure conformance, cost efficiency, and schedule alignment.

  • Support project teams during pre-bid, fabrication, and final delivery phases with quality-related insights and compliance strategies.

  • Investigate non-conformities, perform root cause analysis, and lead corrective and preventive action initiatives.

  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external clients, including third-party inspectors and regulatory agencies.

  • Develop and conduct training programs on welding standards, inspection criteria, and QA/QC procedures.

  • Provide technical guidance on NDE methods, weld procedures, and customer acceptance criteria.

  • Travel as needed to support shop inspections, field audits, client meetings, and training sessions.

Required Skills & Competencies
  • In-depth understanding of structural and pressure vessel fabrication codes including AWS D1.1, D1.5, ASME Section VIII, and AISC.

  • Proficient in nondestructive testing (NDT) methods including VT, PT, MT, and UT; able to evaluate reports and oversee procedures.

  • Strong decision-making and root-cause analysis skills.

  • Highly organized with strong time management and reporting capabilities.

  • Effective written and verbal communication, including report writing and customer correspondence.

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, weld maps, specifications, and technical standards.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel) and familiarity with Procore or similar project management platforms.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Welding Technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.

  • Minimum of 5 years in a QA/QC management role within a heavy fabrication or industrial manufacturing environment.

  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential required.

  • Experience with USACE, DOT, or similarly regulated projects is strongly preferred.

  • Familiarity with quality audits, third-party inspections, and compliance reporting in a manufacturing or fabrication setting.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Willingness to travel to job sites, vendor locations, and customer facilities as needed.

  • Ability to work in a fabrication shop environment, including navigating around equipment and machinery.

  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, walk, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs as required.

  • Must be able to speak, read, and write English fluently.
