Job Summary

The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventive maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Technician II can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. The role complies with all company policies and achieves high performance metrics.

Duties
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment: electrical, brake, cooling, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, and more.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
  • Identify problems, use sound judgment to evaluate alternatives.
  • Manage parts inventory and perform periodic reconciliation on the company‑issued service truck.
  • Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, performing safety checks and pre/post–trip inspections.
  • Work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, and resolve problems.
  • Prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks.
  • Document work according to company standards and upload pictures, parts used, and findings on repair orders using the proprietary TRAIT application.
  • Complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity, meeting or exceeding standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed.
  • Communicate with management and support to obtain approvals on repair estimates and discuss repair findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
Requirements
  • High School Diploma / GED and 3 years of related experience (alternative combinations such as a higher degree or 5 years of experience are acceptable).
  • Supply a set of hand tools necessary for the job.
  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
  • Pass a DOT‑regulated background screening and DOT physical; a current DOT medical card with more than four months validity may be submitted in lieu.
  • Must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Safe drivers needed; must maintain a valid Driver Qualification File.
