Integration Developer
Everett, MA(Hybrid)
Long term contract

Client is seeking a skilled Integration Developer to lead the design and implementation of API integrations with third-party Child Care Management System (CCMS) applications such as Brightwheel, Pro Care, Alliance Core, Playground, and Lillio. The goal is to develop a functional prototype with selected application vendor(s), assist in assessing the quality and usefulness of the incoming data, and use those insights to shape scalable, sustainable integration processes for future implementation.

This role will work in close collaboration with the EOE Solutions Architect to develop secure, scalable endpoints and a robust data service layer to support authentication, data translation, versioning, and messaging. These integrations will facilitate seamless data flow into the Commonwealth’s master data management and reporting platforms, enhancing the availability of real-time, actionable information to support policy and enrollment decisions in family child care.

The Integration Developer will assess data consistency, completeness, and reliability; identify gaps or anomalies; and provide technical recommendations related to data handling practices, data cleanup strategies, and alignment with established data standards. The role will also support the development of scalable integration patterns that can be extended to additional vendors, ensuring long‑term interoperability and data integrity across  addition to CCMS integration, this position will contribute to broader development initiatives across EOE IT.

Responsibilities include participating in code reviews, providing technical guidance to development teams, advising on data strategy for the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC), and making recommendations to the Solutions Architect to ensure that technical solutions are aligned with enterprise architecture standards and strategic goals.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain APIs to connect with third‑party education applications for data retrieval and ingestion.
  • Build secure, scalable endpoints that incorporate authentication, version control, and messaging best practices.
  • Perform regular testing and validation of API integrations to ensure reliability.
  • Implement translation layers to map external data structures from partner systems onto EOE’s internal data models.
  • Collaborate on leveraging or building data exchange standards, such as Ed‑Fi, to promote interoperability across education data systems.
  • Enforce public API service boundary best practices, ensuring security, reliability, and scalability of integrations.
  • Work closely with the Data Engineering and Analytics (DEA), Database Administration, and Cloud Teams to support downstream processes including Master Data Management (MDM), ETL workflows, reporting, and storage.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize integrations, ensuring consistent data availability for education stakeholders.
  • Contribute to broader software development efforts within EOE IT, including participating in code reviews and collaborating with development teams to ensure coding consistency and maintainability.
  • Provide technical recommendations to the EOE Solutions Architect and other stakeholders, helping align solutions with long‑term enterprise architecture and strategic goals.
  • Support EEC’s evolving data strategy by offering guidance on data handling, system integration, and technical implementation approaches.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Experience designing and building API integrations with third‑party software platforms, preferably in the education or public benefits sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs, authentication protocols (OAuth, API keys), versioning techniques, and analyzing API usage for optimization.
  • Familiarity with education data standards such as Ed‑Fi or similar frameworks is highly desirable.
  • Experience using Jira for end‑to‑end tracking of tasks, sprints and releases, ensuring timely delivery and process transparency.
