CYP Assistant – 2,000 Dollars in Sign‑on and Retention Bonuses Available
Summary
: CYP Assistants work directly with children and youth to keep them engaged, well‑cared for, and safe while participating in the Child and Youth Program (CYP). The day includes fostering social skills, encouraging healthy choices, building self‑help and school‑readiness skills, and exploring the environment.
- Curriculum
- Develop schedules and activity plans, reviewing those created by entry‑ and intermediate‑level Assistants.
- Adapt plans to individual needs and incorporate special instructions from parents.
- Implement activities and special events that meet physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs.
- Stage snacks or meals when applicable.
- Indoor and Outdoor Environment
- Prepare and maintain activity areas and materials daily.
- Set up displays, bulletin boards, and inventory equipment.
- Secure supplies, equipment, and facilities.
- Interactions and Relationships
- Create a program environment that encourages interest and positive interactions.
- Use approved child‑guidance and youth‑development techniques with children and youth.
- Supervision of Children and Youth
- Provide care and supervision in compliance with DoD, NAF, and local policies.
- Track whereabouts and safety, supervise activities, and ensure proper departure with authorized individuals.
- Report suspected abuse or neglect, serving as a mandatory reporter.
- Parent and Employee Communication
- Communicate professionally with employees, parents, and local command staff.
- Provide daily verbal or written feedback to parents.
- Participate in conferences with parents and employees.
- Assessment
- Observe and document developmental progress or concerns.
- Use instruments such as rating scales and risk tools for program evaluation.
- Compliance
- Assist in attaining DoD certification and national accreditation.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, policies, and regulations.
- Additional Responsibilities
- Collect, maintain, and report program participation data.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Complete required training certificates and maintain credentials required by federal, state, and national accreditation institutions.
- Pass all applicable records, background, and drug‑testing requirements.
- Pass a pre‑employment physical and provide evidence of immunization; be free of communicable diseases.
- Education proof is required if not submitted with the initial application.
- Marijuana is a Schedule I drug; a positive test will result in withdrawal of the job offer and a 6‑month ineligibility period.
- Position is designated as a Test Designated Position (TDP) requiring consent for pre‑employment and random drug testing.
Entry Level (CY‑1702‑01)
- Communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing.
- Follow verbal and written instructions.
- Complete all Department of the Navy training requirements within the specified timeframe.
- Promote and foster effective relationships with children, youth, and coworkers.
- Work cooperatively as a team member.
Intermediate Level (CY‑1702‑01)
- All Entry Level abilities plus:
- Knowledge of basic child and youth development principles to meet the diverse needs of children and youth.
- Implement developmentally appropriate principles and practices.
- Interpret curriculum or activity plans.
- Plan and organize, and work cooperatively as a team member.
- Six (6) months of experience working with children or youth in a child and youth setting.
Target Level (CY‑1702‑02)
- All Entry and Intermediate knowledge and abilities plus:
- Knowledge of child and youth development principles to inform efficient program response.
- Skill in implementing developmentally appropriate principles and practices.
- Skill in promoting and fostering effective relationships.
- Verbal communication skill to explain program information and procedures.
- One (1) year of experience working with children or youth in a child and youth setting.
- Provide a copy of your high school diploma, GED, or college transcripts.
