Job Summary:As a part‑time Information Assistant, you perform various duties that maintain library technical support and user services. You will work closely with other library staff and be supervised by the Library Director. Each day you will utilize your attention to detail and interpersonal skills to maintain clerical work, print patron materials, perform reader advisory, help patrons find research and reading materials, and request items from an associated library.
Preferred candidates will have experience in using print and online research resources, strong customer service skills, and the ability to instruct others on the use of technology and information sources.
- Sort and place library items in their proper places.
- Locate library materials in all formats.
- Assist in the creation, routing, revision, and approval of various online documents.
- Provide instruction on research and the use of library equipment.
- Issue library cards, and maintain library equipment in proper working order.
- Contribute to the safety and security of the library patrons, staff, and facilities through awareness, communication, and discernment.
- Open and close the library as scheduled.
- Duties may include circulation tasks and processing new materials.
- Community outreach, including some off‑site work, may be required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Library Director.
- Masters of Library Science (MLS) coursework or equivalent experience preferred.
- Proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel and/or other spreadsheet software.
- Proven knowledge of computers and their uses in the library environment (Windows; Microsoft Office; G‑Suite, Internet) is required.
- Good organizational skills, strong customer service skills, and a team player with creativity and initiative.
- Bilingual (English, Spanish or Portuguese) is preferred.
- Ability to serve a diverse community with tact, confidence, and enthusiasm.
- Ability to communicate effectively with other staff.
- Ability to troubleshoot library equipment.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment independently and with supervision.
- Ability to stand, walk, use hands and reach.
- Specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies up to 20 lbs.
