The primary responsibility is to work closely with other members of the engineering staff to define the equipment architecture, detail drawings, bearing selection and definition of materials. The role includes conducting equipment failure analysis as well as static, fatigue and dynamics analyses of mechanical components and mechanisms using both classical methods and FEA software. The engineer will assist the Quality department and support OEM production as needed, be in charge of writing Qualification Test Plans (QTP), Qualification Test Reports (QTR), Qualification Justification Notes (QJN) and managing qualification tests.
The role may also involve managing some development projects, particularly projects to reuse or modify an existing fan.
- All aspects of the product mechanical design.
- Work closely with French and US engineering teams from concept to production.
- Interpret equipment requirements to translate into design of mechanical components.
- Conduct equipment failure analysis for mechanical and electrical components.
- Perform component and mechanism analytical calculations such as rotor dynamics, thermal analysis, bearing selection.
- Analyze FEA reports.
- Assist team members in design of equipment including material selection, equipment architecture and design for manufacturing.
- Conduct tolerance studies.
- Create detail and assembly drawings.
- Create product bill of material.
- Collaborate with Quality, Supply Chain and Production departments to support the development of new programs and serial production.
- Integrate electrical components into equipment.
- Provide test and evaluation support, including input to Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP).
- Write QTP, QTR, QJN and other technical documents.
- Manage qualification tests at external laboratories.
- Mentor colleagues.
BS or MS in mechanical or aerospace engineering, 1–2 years of engineering experience in the aircraft or related industry.
Skills and Requirements- Highly organized, self‑starting, team‑oriented.
- Clear and effective written and oral communication with co‑workers, management, manufacturers and customers.
- Knowledge of CAD tools; 3D solid modeling using Pro‑E (CREO) preferred.
- Familiarity with FEA software and calculation methods.
- Basic understanding of aerodynamic principles.
- Familiarity with asynchronous and synchronous motors.
- Familiarity with circuit boards, processors, chips and electronic equipment.
- Understanding of bearing architecture, failure modes and applications in electromechanical equipment.
- Strong analytical skills (FMEA, risk analysis).
- Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Design and Drafting Standards, ASME Y14.100 Engineering Drawing Practices.
- Knowledge of aerospace test standards such as RTCA DO‑160 and MIL‑DTL‑810.
- Familiarity with product validation (vibration, shock and environmental).
- Proficient with Microsoft Office – Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Engineering project management desired.
- Designing in both US and SI units and materials.
