System Safety Engineer (Mid‑Level or Senior)

The BCA In‑Service Safety Organization (Boeing Commercial Airplanes) is hiring System Safety Engineers at Mid‑Level (Level
3) or Senior (Levels 4 &
5). The role offers exposure to all aspects of airplane design and operation, with a primary focus on evaluating the safety of products during operation in service.
- Lead the Continued Operational Safety process for events reported through 14 CFR 21.3, coordinating functional engineering organizations.
- Collaborate closely with Boeing functional groups, management, suppliers, and airlines to align on safety issue status and resolution.
- Define hazards, perform complex risk analysis, and apply Boeing and FAA methodologies to determine corrective action timelines.
- Ensure solutions mitigate potential fleet safety concerns.
- Lead Safety Lessons Learned investigations to address systemic root causes and identify corrective actions.
- Coordinate with the FAA to support independent safety decisions.
- Partner with Enterprise Safety and SMS to continuously improve processes and tools.
- Champion product safety initiatives, objectives, and milestones.
Mid‑Level (Level
3) candidates should meet the following:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with a multi‑discipline team.
- Intrinsic aptitude for taking initiative and leading cross‑functional teams and projects.
- Willingness to take ownership of work activities and ensure timely, accurate completion.
Senior (Levels 4 &
5) candidates should meet the following:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interact and communicate with senior management and external customers, including airlines and regulatory agencies.
- Ability to lead and mentor a multi‑discipline team.
- Intrinsic aptitude for taking initiative and leading complex projects.
- Willingness to take ownership of work activities and ensure timely, accurate completion.
- Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry.
- Level 3: 5+ years of related work experience or equivalent education/experience.
- Level 4: 9+ years of related work experience or equivalent education/experience.
- Level 5: 14+ years of related work experience or equivalent education/experience.
- Knowledge of Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) tools and/or the Boeing Problem Solving Model (BPSM).
- 1+ year of experience with commercial airplane operation, certification, safety requirements, and procedures.
- Knowledge of Continued Operational Safety reporting per 14 CFR 21.3 requirements.
- Experience working with FAA or other regulatory agencies.
- Experience in commercial airplane‑systems design or analysis (e.g. Flight Controls, Hydraulics, Avionics, Fuels) or systems integration.
- Knowledge of Hazard Analyses, FMEAs, Airplane Level Threats, and Fault Trees.
- Experience developing/applying aviation‑related system safety analysis methods such as FTA, FHA, and SAR.
- Pilot license (optional).
- Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) license (optional).
The Total Rewards package includes competitive base pay and variable compensation. Eligibility for benefit programs varies by location, date of hire, and collective bargaining agreements.

3): $114,750 – $155,250 - Senior (Level
4): $138,550 – $187,450 - Senior (Level
5): $165,750 – $224,250
