AP Accountant role at Advanced Sterilization Products
ASP is seeking a skilled and motivated Accounts Payable (AP) accountant to join the North America's Finance team. This role focuses on maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring SOX compliance, supporting audits, and driving efficiencies through lean principles.
This is a fully remote opportunity in the greater Seattle area. The role requires a once‑weekly 1‑hour commute to Everett, Washington for a brief onsite responsibility; hours on site are minimal and flexible.
Key Responsibilities- Accounts Payable:
- Process vendor invoices accurately and timely, ensuring proper coding and authorization.
- Perform 3‑way matching for purchase orders, receipts, and invoices.
- Review and approve employee expense reports.
- Manage the Corporate Credit Card and PCard program.
- Record accruals and accounting entries for unpaid invoices at month‑end.
- SOX Compliance:
- Document, test, and evaluate internal controls within the AP process.
- Support annual SOX testing and address identified control weaknesses.
- Collaborate with auditors to provide documentation and resolve audit findings.
- Audit Support:
- Prepare schedules and reports for periodic audits.
- Provide necessary documentation to substantiate AP balances and payments.
- Coordinate with external auditors during year‑end audit.
- Vendor Management:
- Maintain vendor master database with accurate contact information and tax details.
- Resolve vendor statement discrepancies and ensure timely payments.
- Respond to vendor inquiries regarding payment status.
- Lean Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to streamline AP workflows.
- Apply lean principles (automation, communication enhancements).
- Collaborate across teams to promote continuous improvement.
- Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Assist in AP‑related financial reports: aging, cash‑flow forecasts, month‑end accruals.
- Analyze aging reports to resolve overdue payments.
- Support cash management forecasting.
- Compliance &
Risk Management:- Ensure compliance with tax regulations (sales tax, withholding, 1099).
- Enforce company payment policies and limits.
- Maintain regulatory compliance with tax authorities.
- Month‑End & Year‑End Close Support:
- Prepare and review AP journal entries.
- Reconcile AP accounts to accurate balances.
- Resolve reconciling items between sub‑ledgers and the general ledger.
- Cross‑Departmental
Collaboration:- Work with procurement, treasury, and finance teams for alignment.
- Provide guidance on payment and contract terms.
- Perform other finance/AP duties as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (preferred).
- 1‑3 years of experience in AP or accounting, preferably public company.
- Strong understanding of procure‑to‑pay cycle, SOX, audits, and internal controls.
- Experience with SAP, Oracle, Net Suite, and advanced Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP).
- Knowledge of sales tax and 1099 reporting.
- Familiarity with lean principles.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and prioritization.
- Strong communication and vendor interaction skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Experience with automated AP systems or electronic invoicing.
- Background in manufacturing, technology, or retail.
- Knowledge of business process mapping and reengineering.
