Veterans Service Officer – Snohomish County, WA

We are seeking a dedicated professional to provide emergency assistance to veterans and families in accordance with RCW and county procedures. The role involves issuing emergency vouchers, assisting with VA claims, conducting outreach, and maintaining client data.

Essential Duties
  • Interview veterans/families to determine eligibility for emergency vouchers and assess needs.
  • Issue vouchers and enter required data into client database.
  • Assist clients in filing claims with the VA for entitlements and benefits.
  • Respond to requests from veterans incarcerated in the Snohomish County Jail and arrange post‑jail release services.
  • Provide outreach to outlying areas for veterans unable to travel to Everett.
  • Assist veterans in developing plans to become self‑sufficient.
  • Network with veterans' organizations, county departments, and community providers to increase available services.
  • Maintain voucher system to track client data and account for vendor payments.
  • Identify and coordinate with program staff in surrounding counties to prevent duplication of assistance.
  • Quantify program impact and adjust allocations to meet needs.
  • Support Veterans' Assistance Fund Board committees.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in psychology, sociology, social work, social welfare, counseling, guidance, office administration, or a closely related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience performing office work with veteran‑related services or community support services; or equivalent training/experience.
  • Pass job‑related tests.
  • Must be an honorably discharged veteran.
  • Must have a valid State of Washington driver’s license.

  • Standard office practices and procedures.
  • Human services and governmental agencies, programs, and resources.
  • Public customer service.
  • VA Veterans Benefits and applicable RCW’s.
  • Data analysis and statistical calculations.
  • Develop veteran services programs and plans.
Abilities to
  • Apply veteran‑relevant RCWs, SCC, and USDVA benefits and entitlements.
  • Effectively interview clients, determine courses of action, and evaluate progress.
  • Establish rapport with clients and guide towards positive goals.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse populations.
  • Express ideas and recommendations both orally and in writing.
  • Maintain records and prepare clear reports.
  • Make decisions within scope of authority.
  • Perform data entry, word processing, and computer tasks.
  • Operate a motor vehicle.
