Mandarin In-Person Interpreter

Overview

Mandarin In-Person Interpreter (IPI) — Mandarin Interpreter position located in Everett, onsite servicing Snohomish County. Job Type: Independent Contractor. The role facilitates onsite communication for Limited English Proficient (LEP) clients and practitioners in a variety of settings. This contract position offers flexibility and opportunities to expand your interpreting business with access to many sessions per day.

• Provide effective onsite interpreting sessions in a professional manner.
• Maintain a professional appearance and conduct, including punctuality and preparedness for sessions.
• Adapt quickly to new and changing situations.
• Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting context.
• Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.
• Show respect for LEP clients, culture, dialect, beliefs and preferences.
• Possess strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting.
• Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
• Render exact and correct concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol.

• Fluent with strong verbal communication skills in both Mandarin and English (Mandarin to English and vice versa).
• Excellent listening and retention skills for high accuracy during interpretation.
• Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or national certification.
• Extensive knowledge of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI and NCIHC).
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

• Ability to read and write in the requested languages.
• Degree or certifications in interpreting practices.
• National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI, NBCMI or DSHS.
• Accredited medical interpreting training courses (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour accredited medical courses).
