Amharic In-Person Interpreter (IPI)
Job Title: Amharic Interpreter
Location: Everett, onsite servicing Snohomish County
Job Type: Independent Contractor
Position Overview: The Amharic In-Person Interpreter is responsible for facilitating onsite communication for Limited English Proficient (LEP) community and the practitioners that serve them in a variety of settings. This contract position is flexible and an opportunity to expand your interpreting business with access to many sessions per day.
Job Functions
- Provide effective onsite interpreting sessions in a professional manner.
- Always exhibit professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness for sessions.
- Demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to new and changing situations.
- Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting context.
- Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.
- Respect for and understanding of our Limited English Proficient (LEP) clients, culture, dialect and beliefs and preferences.
- Strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting.
- Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
- Render exact and correct concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol.
- Fluent and have strong verbal communication skills in both the source and target language (Amharic to English and vice-a-versa).
- Excellent listening and retention skills to maintain a high level of accuracy during interpretation.
- Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or have a national certification.
- Extensive knowledge of code of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI and NCIHC).
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to read and write in the requested languages.
- Degree or certifications in interpreting practices.
- National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI, NBCMI or DSHS.
- Accredited Medical Interpreting Training course (i.e.: ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour accredited medical courses).
