Thai Interpreter (In-Person Interpreter)

Location: Everett, Washington (on‑site servicing Snohomish County)

Job Type: Independent Contractor

The Thai In‑Person Interpreter is responsible for facilitating onsite communication for Limited English Proficient (LEP) community members and the practitioners that serve them in a variety of settings. This contract position is flexible and offers an opportunity to expand your interpreting business with access to many sessions per day.

• Provide effective onsite interpreting sessions in a professional manner.
• Always exhibit professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness for sessions.
• Demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to new and changing situations.
• Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to the interpreting context.
• Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and work in a diverse environment.
• Respect and understand LEP clients, their culture, dialect, and preferences.
• Show strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting.
• Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
• Render exact and correct concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol.

• Fluent in Thai and English with strong verbal communication skills in both languages.
• Excellent listening and retention skills to maintain a high level of accuracy during interpretation.
• Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or possession of a national certification.
• Extensive knowledge of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI, NCIHC).
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

• Ability to read and write in Thai and English.
• Degree or certifications in interpreting practices.
• National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI, NBCMI, or DSHS.
• Accredited medical interpreting training course (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross‑Cultural training, 40‑hour accredited medical courses).
