Gain hands-on experience in complex family law cases while expanding your legal knowledge and leadership skills
- As our Family Law Paralegal, you will:
Manage and organize case files from intake through resolution for family law matters (divorce, custody/parenting, support, adoption, domestic violence, property division) - Prepare, draft, and proof pleadings, discovery requests/responses, motions, parenting plans, settlement agreements, support calculations, and property schedules
- Coordinate with attorneys to develop a case strategy, prepare for mediation, arbitration, and court hearings
- Interface with clients: schedule meetings, gather documentation (financial affidavits, pre-marital/post-marital agreements, parenting plan proposals), and maintain case status updates
- Liaise with opposing counsel, court clerks, mediators, and other support professionals (e.g., child psychologists, financial experts) to ensure deadlines are met
- Manage calendaring and deadlines specific to family law (e.g., hearing dates, discovery cut-offs, parenting plan modifications)
- Maintain document filings (electronic and hard copy), ensure proper service of process, and uphold confidentiality and firm protocols
- Assist with client billing, tracking time and expenses, as appropriate
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the family law workflow: refining templates, checklists, and firm procedures
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a paralegal in family law
- Strong knowledge of Washington family law procedures, statutes, and rules (e.g., divorce/dissolution, child custody/parenting, support, domestic violence protection orders)
- Proven ability to draft pleadings, parenting plans, property division schedules, and other family-law specific documents
- Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite 365
- Well organized, efficient, and able to prioritize tasks accordingly
- Positive and a solution-focused problem solver
