About the PositionThe Material Handler unloads donations from containers and moves goods to appropriate production areas.
Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesOther duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.
- Remove and sort salvage material and garbage from salable goods.
- Sort donations into appropriate bins for further processing.
- Provide a smooth flow of goods to the production floor.
- Use cardboard compactors and identify problems.
- Maintain donor tallies.
- Maintain a clean work environment.
- Demonstrate safe work practices through awareness and observation in support of a safety culture; report any potential hazards or accidents.
- Build and maintain internal and external customer satisfaction.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- When certified to Seattle Goodwill standards, consistently and safely execute duties associated with forklift operation (if applicable).
- Minors are not allowed to use heavy machinery or compactors.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- High school graduate or equivalency preferred, but not required.
- No experience required.
- If applicable:
Seattle Goodwill forklift certification optional, must meet eligibility requirements.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 30‑40 lbs; stand for long periods; frequently bend, kneel, reach, stoop, squat, push, climb ladders; move across varied surfaces; communicate verbally and in writing. Reliable attendance required.
