Job Description

At Boeing, we offer a 5‑year, 10,000‑hour apprenticeship that combines paid on‑the‑job training, classroom education, and a progressive wage structure. Through the IAM/Boeing Joint Apprenticeship Program, apprentices gain hands‑on experience and, upon completion, earn a journey‑worker certificate and placement at the maximum wage rate.

Apprenticeship Overview

The program begins with a 20% probationary period, followed by at least 144 unpaid hours of school per year. Wages are defined by Article 17 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, with a step increase for every 1,000 hours of recorded on‑the‑job training. Upon graduation, apprentices are placed in the target job as a full‑time Electronic Maintenance Technician, receiving a worldwide recognized journey‑worker certification.

Responsibilities
  • Obtain work assignments from daily dispatch or dispatcher.
  • Plan jobs by coordinating equipment, tools, drawings, and procedures.
  • Review schematics, ladders, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications for compliance with FAA and regulatory standards.
  • Diagnose malfunctions in electronic and electrical systems, communication protocols, and integrated machine tools.
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and rework electronic control devices, sensors, servo systems, PID loops, transducers, and printed circuit boards.
  • Use precision measuring instruments and advanced test equipment such as oscilloscopes, meters, laser interferometers, and ballbars.
  • Write, edit, and develop programs and test loops to support maintenance activities.
  • Operate and adjust equipment for troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Disassemble and reassemble electronic components for inspection and repair.
  • Crimp, terminate, and solder wires; modify parts as required.
  • Ensure lock‑out, tag‑out, and equipment testing for safety.
  • Conduct follow‑up tests and communicate results to operators.
  • Collaborate with operators, vendors, engineers, and other crafts for troubleshooting and improvements.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and equipment logs.
  • Use mechanical lifts safely and efficiently.
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulations.
  • Maintain personal certifications and consult supervisors as needed.
  • Perform related tasks for other job classifications when necessary.
  • Ensure system configurations comply with all federal, state, and company regulations.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience applying math skills such as algebra, geometry, or trigonometry.
  • Experience reading engineering blueprints and drawings.
  • Experience with electrical or electronic precision measuring tools (multimeters, clamp meters, voltage testers, oscilloscopes).
  • Basic understanding of electricity and electronics.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • High school graduate or equivalent; proof of successful completion required.
  • Must be a US Person (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee).
  • Minimum of one year of relevant work experience (e.g., Electrical Technician, Mechanic, CCTV Technician).
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
Physical Demands and Potential Hazards
  • Lifting 10–15 lb to 15–35 lb.
  • Reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.
  • Working in environments with metals, solvents, coolants, moving parts, sharp tools, and potential slipping hazards.
  • Adapting to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.
  • Using personal safety gear to protect face, eyes, hands, arms, and feet.
Compensation and Benefits

Hourly rate: $46.60 per hour, with potential to earn up to $62.45 per hour under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
