Summary
Support the Military's Quality of Life programs! The Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) department of Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) provides fitness, recreation, lodging and food and beverage programs for service members, their families, retired military and civilian employees. This position is assigned to the Non‑Appropriated Fund (NAF) Fitness, Sports, and Deployed Support Branch;
Fleet Readiness;

Naval Station Everett.
- Performs all pool and/or waterfront lifeguard responsibilities such as supervising swimmers/patrons and monitoring all natural water activities, applying first aid, enforcing safety rules and reporting safety hazards to the supervisor, and performing water rescues as necessary.
- Observes and documents conditions of the assigned area (possible hazards, water/chemical conditions, marine life, wind and weather) to ensure a safe environment and removes hazardous materials when necessary (e.g., floating debris, glass).
- Performs rescue work, renders CPR or emergency first aid, and calls for medical assistance as necessary.
- Conducts and documents pool chemical testing results, checks chlorine and pH levels on a scheduled basis, notifies the Certified Pool Operator or supervisor of imbalances, and may adjust chemicals as directed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Instructs various levels of swimming, including front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke, butterfly, etc., for students ranging from infants to adults.
- Instructs basic diving, safety and survival skills.
- Works with lifeguards to ensure swim lessons are safe at all times.
- Enforces pool safety standards and facility operational rules for all individuals using the facilities.
- Plans and organizes instruction methods and goals that support the general teaching outlines provided by the Aquatics Program Manager and the certifying organization.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Administers aquatic assessment testing and certification in accordance with Department of Defense (DoD), Department of the Navy (DON) and CNIC policy.
- Provides introductory equipment orientations as needed.
- Checks identification cards for authorized patrons and collects usage fees, if applicable.
- Serves as the primary liaison between the activity, security, medical departments, and Aquatics Manager during emergency situations.
- Performs cleaning duties (basic janitorial services, vacuuming, skimming) and routine facility maintenance as assigned by the Aquatics Manager.
- Inspects stands, boards, ropes, safety gear and dressing room condition to ensure they meet environmental health standards; informs the supervisor of deficiencies.
- Uses and maintains emergency equipment (specialized kits and bags, backboards, suction devices, splints, stretchers, monitoring equipment).
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Leads and directs the work of three (3) or more lifeguard crew during work shifts to ensure duties are performed in accordance with established safety regulations and policies.
- Schedules, coordinates and conducts in‑service training of assigned lifeguards and recreational swimming instructors.
- Orients new lifeguards to job duties and responsibilities.
- Monitors and tracks all lifeguards' training requirements and certifications to ensure they are current and competent in all rescue techniques, including first aid and CPR.
- Monitors lifeguard rotation schedules, issues directives, and monitors work performance.
- Assists Aquatics Management Team with interviews and selection of lifeguard positions.
- Recommends personnel actions to the Aquatics Management Team.
- Assists with scheduling of lifeguards to ensure adequate coverage of pool areas during operating hours, notifies the manager of employee absences and issues.
- Inventories and recognizes when supplies or equipment need to be ordered.
