SummarySupport the Military’s Quality of Life programs. The Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) department of Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) provides fitness, recreation, lodging and food & beverage programs for service members, their families, retired military and civilian employees. This position is assigned to the Non‑Appropriated Fund (NAF) Fitness, Sports, and Deployed Support Branch;

- Bi‑weekly review of applicants.
- Perform all pool and/or waterfront lifeguard responsibilities (e.g., supervise patrons and activities, monitor water activities, apply first aid, enforce safety rules, report safety hazards, perform water rescues as necessary).
- Observe conditions of assigned area (e.g., hazards, water/chemical conditions, wind and weather) to ensure a safe environment, removing hazardous materials when necessary.
- Perform rescue work, promptly render cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or emergency first aid, and call for medical assistance as required.
- Conduct and document pool chemical testing results; check chlorine and pH levels on a scheduled basis; notify Certified Pool Operator or supervisor of chemical imbalances and adjust chemicals as directed.
- Administer aquatic assessment testing and certification in accordance with Department of Defense (DoD), Department of the Navy (DON) and CNIC policy.
- Provide introductory equipment orientations as needed.
- Check identification cards for authorized patrons and collect usage fees, if applicable.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the activity, security, medical departments and Aquatics Coordinator during emergency situations.
- Perform cleaning duties (e.g., basic janitorial services, vacuuming, skimming) and routine facility maintenance as assigned.
- Inspect stands, boards, ropes, safety gear and dressing rooms to ensure compliance with environmental health standards; inform supervisor of deficiencies.
- Use and maintain emergency equipment (e.g., specialized kits and bags, backboards, suction devices, splints, stretchers, monitoring equipment).
- Enforce applicable MWR policies and procedures regarding the use of aquatic facilities and waterfront operations.
- Prepare accident/incident reports during emergency situations; notify management immediately.
- Work with hazardous materials (e.g., cleaning agents, pool chemicals).
- Perform ongoing, regular training to maintain lifeguarding and first aid skills.
- Complete daily activity reports and point‑of‑sale system transactions.
- Answer telephone calls providing information about facility hours, upcoming special events and programs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Meet Federal employment suitability requirements and successfully complete a background investigation.
- Knowledge of the goals, principles, techniques and procedures used in organizing, planning and conducting basic fitness, aquatics and sports activities.
- Knowledge of FFR policies, rules and regulations regarding the use of aquatic facilities and waterfront operations.
- Knowledge of pool and waterfront safety rules.
- Knowledge of the Navy FFR mission, scope of recreational activities and their suitability for individuals, groups, ages and interests.
- Knowledge of and ability to conduct pool chemical testing, document results, and adjust chemical imbalances as directed.
- Knowledge of the organization's instructional methods and goals.
- Knowledge of DoD, DON and CNIC aquatic assessment and testing policy.
- Knowledge of basic water safety equipment utilized for various age groups.
- Knowledge of basic first aid procedures to include automated external defibrillator and blood‑borne pathogens.
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic to compute charges, disperse change accurately and prepare reports.
- Knowledge of point‑of‑sale system procedures.
