Charter Bus Driver – Durham School Services
We help students reach school safely, on time, and ready to learn. Safety is our top priority.
Pay Rate: $30.75 per hour. Medical, dental, vision and basic life insurance coverage are provided. Employees may enroll in a retirement savings plan.
Driver in Training ProgramAll Driver positions begin with us as a Driver in Training. You will receive training and support to obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) and related endorsements. Upon successful completion of training you will be assigned a Professional Driver role.

- Provide safe and reliable transportation by operating a school bus or other company vehicle.
- Exhibit the highest ethical practices and personal integrity; report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior to a supervisor or manager.
- Report to duty on time and maintain the route schedule while ensuring safety.
- Assist passengers in evacuating the vehicle during emergencies.
- Immediately report any accident or incident per company policy.
- Follow company policy on student and passenger management.
- Inform all appropriate personnel of problems/procedures.
- Maintain a neat and professional personal appearance at all times.
- Complete all required paperwork (route‑change sheets, time cards, vehicle repair requests) and submit it to the appropriate authority in a timely manner.
- Maintain a cooperative attitude with fellow employees, supervisors, customers, and passengers while promoting company goodwill.
- Safely and efficiently use vehicle equipment, including wheelchair lifts, radios, and emergency equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Additional responsibilities for paratransit drivers may apply per location.
- Must be at least 21 years of age (25 years for Tennessee school bus drivers per state law).
- Must possess or be able to obtain all valid applicable state licenses and other required certifications.
- Must meet physical and medical requirements and pass a substance‑abuse screening.
- Must satisfactorily complete and pass all training.
- Must practice defensive driving at all times and avoid vehicular and industrial accidents.
- Compliance with all applicable federal, state, county, district, and contract‑specific driver requirements.
