OverviewAs a Heavy Truck Driver, you will transport solid waste or recyclables and perform routine maintenance. Your work will be conducted at our modern Solid Waste facilities, and you will have well‑maintained and regularly serviced trucks with on‑road support.
All routes are local within Snohomish County, with no overnight travel required.
Responsibilities- Drive a tractor‑trailer or truck‑trailer combination to safely transport solid waste or recyclables.
- Inspect and maintain the rig to ensure all equipment, accessories, and containers are in good working condition.
- Maneuver the truck/trailer efficiently in tight quarters around customers, other equipment, along retaining walls, and into loading and compactor bays.
- Perform routine maintenance by checking fluid levels and lubricating equipment, maintaining mileage and inspection reports, service records, and required paperwork.
- Coordinate with Transfer Station Operators to schedule service and ensure available containers at each site.
- Communicate with supervisors and staff, proactively identifying and resolving operational problems.
- Perform Laborer‑type duties when not operating assigned equipment.
- Drive a tractor‑tank or truck‑trailer combination to haul leachate or heavy equipment as assigned.
- Support recycling operations and other Solid Waste‑related duties as required.
- Class A CDL with medical card.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience operating a tractor‑trailer or truck‑trailer combination, or equivalent training/experience.
- Must pass job‑related tests.
- Valid First Aid/CPR card required within six (6) months of employment.
- Full driving abstract from the Washington State Department of Licensing.
- Pre‑employment drug and alcohol screening.
- Registration in the FMCSA DOT Clearinghouse.
- Placement on the County Random Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.
- Completion of forty (40) hours of riding plus forty (40) hours of driving with a current driver trainer.
- Successful driving test with a Solid Waste Operations Third Party Evaluator.
- Attendance of the County's defensive driving course within six (6) months of employment, or completion of an external heavy‑truck driver defensive driving course.
- Tanker endorsement may be required.

The Solid Waste Division manages the disposal of garbage, hazardous materials, and recycling throughout Snohomish County. With three full‑service facilities and four neighborhood and special‑items facilities, the Division focuses on reducing waste, promoting reuse, handling hazardous waste, supplying garbage and recycling services to residents, and partnering with private vendors.
