Job type: 30 hours, Permanent position

Hours: 30 hours per week some evening work for open access sessions and flexibility during school holidays for summer and half term youth activity programme.

We’re looking for an inspiring Youth Centre Manager to lead our vibrant youth centre — the only one in the area — and help shape a safe, welcoming, youth led space where young people’s voices are truly heard.

About Us

Ourside Youth Association is a grassroots charity dedicated to supporting young people in the community. We provide free, engaging activities in a youth led environment where teenagers and young adults (11–19, and up to 25 for those with disabilities) can find support, build confidence, and connect with empathetic staff.

Our centre offers a safe space alongside targeted youth work. Through outreach we visit local schools, run pop-up youth clubs, substance awareness sessions, and sexual health clinics. We create inclusive spaces — both in person and online — so young people stay connected to reliable support.

About the Role

You will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Ourside Youth Centre, including building management, lettings, delivery of positive activities programmes, line management of part-time staff and volunteers, and developing strong partnerships with local organisations.

This is a hands‑on leadership role where you will work directly with young people while also overseeing the smooth running of the building and service.

Key Responsibilities Youth work & programme
  • Design, develop and maintain a programme of youth activities that responds to young people’s identified needs and our vision
  • Work in genuine partnership with young people in the design and delivery of the service
  • Engage directly with young people in activities and sessions
Safety, safeguarding & building management
  • Manage the maintenance and upkeep of the Youth Centre building in accordance with Health & Safety requirements
  • Oversee lettings of the building to external groups and partner organisations
  • Embed robust safeguarding practices across all work
Leadership, community & partnerships
  • Manage, support and develop part-time youth workers and volunteers (including recruitment)
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with the community, local partners and organisations
  • Positively promote Ourside Youth Association through various media
Operations, finance & impact
  • Carry out day-to-day administration and ensure financial procedures are followed
  • Manage assigned budgets, seek and apply for funding streams, and complete programme delivery reports
  • Embed monitoring and evaluation within sessions and report on youth work impact
About You

Essential Criteria
  • A recognised qualification in youth work
  • Current safeguarding knowledge/training
  • Proven experience of working with young people in a variety of settings
  • Experience of staff management/supervision
  • Experience of building management and budget responsibility
  • Strong ability to design, plan and deliver engaging youth activity programmes
  • Excellent report writing and evaluation skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with young people and involve them in decision‑making
  • Ability to organise, motivate others and develop effective partnerships
  • Honest, reliable, approachable, professional, flexible and non‑judgemental approach with a genuine commitment to youth led practice
  • Willingness and ability to work evenings, weekends and during school holidays as required
  • Commitment to equality of opportunity and safeguarding best practice
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undertake one)
  • Experience of successful grant/funding applications
  • Experience of recruiting and inducting staff and volunteers
  • Additional training/qualifications in areas such as mental health, substance misuse, suicide prevention or First Aid
