Primary Teaching Assistant – Flexible supply, day‑to‑day and short‑term opportunities

Working on supply allows a Primary Teaching Assistant to support pupils’ learning, wellbeing, and engagement while gaining experience across a range of classrooms and year groups. Duties

as Primary Teaching Assistant
  • Support pupils’ learning across EYFS, KS1, and KS2 under the direction of the class teacher
  • Work with individuals and small groups to reinforce learning and promote progress
  • Assist with classroom organisation, preparation of resources, and daily routines
  • Promote positive behaviour and support pupils’ social and emotional development
  • Support pupils with additional needs where required
  • Encourage engagement, confidence, and independence in learning
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and school policies at all times
  • Provide feedback to teachers on pupil progress and engagement
  • Represent Step Teachers professionally while working as a Primary Teaching Assistant
Ideal Primary Teaching Assistant
  • Previous experience working as a Primary Teaching Assistant or in a primary school setting
  • A positive, patient, and supportive approach to working with children
  • Confidence supporting pupils across different age groups and abilities
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Flexibility and reliability when working on supply
  • A proactive and adaptable attitude to classroom support
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Willingness to follow guidance and adapt quickly to new school environments
  • Enthusiasm for supporting learning as a Primary Teaching Assistant
