About the Role
Child Watch/Game Room Attendant at the Salvation Army ARC, located at the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center Hawaii).
Base Pay
: $14.00/hr (hourly, part‑time).
Supervise large and small groups of children ages 6 months to 11 years in short‑term childcare while parents or guardians use the Kroc Center. Receive payment for child watch services via a Point of Sale (POS) system, provide information, and answer questions.
RequiredMinimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Sufficient knowledge and skills to use computers and learn new software.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to maintain a non‑judgmental attitude in working with guests, members and staff.
- Ability and desire to work with children, parents, volunteers and peers.
- TB clearance.
- Minimum 3 months experience in dealing and working with children from ages 6 months to 11 years old.
- Experience with a Point of Sales (POS) system preferred.
- Maintain regular and punctual work attendance.
- Be available to work a flexible schedule including working weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Create, promote and maintain a diverse and inclusive environment among program participants, staff, community members, church attenders, volunteers and all guests.
- Provide a safe, supervised and developmentally appropriate play environment for the children of members and guests of the Kroc Center.
- Meet and greet all members, guests, staff and volunteers with a smile and hello, using names when possible and answering program questions.
- Handle and resolve member and guest complaints, following up to ensure satisfaction and escalating as needed.
- Observe, organize and participate in children’s play activities such as craft activities, creative play, board games and puzzles.
- Use positive behavioral methods to encourage independence and responsibility and coach others to do the same.
- Help children overcome separation issues from parents or guardians.
- Support children’s emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self‑concepts.
- Facilitate check‑in and check‑out procedures, ensuring proper identification of adults picking up children and maintaining accurate rosters and logs.
- Maintain confidentiality of member and guest personal information.
- Receive payment by cash, check, credit card or debit card, compute totals, issue receipts and manage POS kiosk.
- Responsible for opening and closing duties and securing the POS area at the end of shift.
- Ensure equipment and supplies are sanitized, safe, and communicate maintenance issues to the Child Watch Lead or Member Services Coordinator.
- Maintain the orderliness and cleanliness of the child watch facility, POS kiosks and desk area.
- Report suspected abuse or policy violations to the Member Services Manager.
- Follow and ensure adherence to Salvation Army policies and procedures and the Code of Ethics policy for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
- Attend staff meetings and other administrative meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The position requires prioritizing, organizing work assignments, and completing projects from start to finish in a fast‑paced environment. It requires coping with changing priorities, handling crisis situations calmly, and resilience in facing workplace stressors. The role demands self‑motivation, initiative, and the ability to work with limited supervision in a team setting.
Physical DemandsRequires sitting, climbing and/or balancing, stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching, crawling, standing, walking and manual dexterity. May lift or carry up to 20 pounds independently and occasionally more. May lift and carry children and equipment, spend time sitting on the floor, and handle cleaning duties. Must tolerate odors associated with toileting, children who are ill, and a noisy environment.
