POSITION TITLE: Pool Attendant

DEPARTMENT: Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center Hawaii)

SUPERVISOR: Aquatic Manager

FLSA STATUS: Non‑Exempt

CLASSIFICATION: Part Time, On Call, Hourly Pay $14.00

Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Aquatic Coordinator, Pool Attendant will assist lifeguards to ensure a safe and orderly swimming environment; assisting with day‑to‑day activities of the pool and ensuring a clean and enjoyable facility for members and guests. The Kroc Center Hawaii Pool Attendant will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school student or college enrollee.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Child labor certificate or "work permit" required for minors under 18.
  • Previous customer service work experience helpful.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.

Essential Functions
  • Assist lifeguards in monitoring the pool area and consistently enforce all rules.
  • Prepare and submit accident/incident reports.
  • Monitor activities to prevent accidents; maintain a vigilant watch according to operating procedures.
  • Warn swimmers of unsafe practices and hazards; enforce pool rules and regulations.
  • Interact positively with members and guests.
  • Greet and assist members and guests in a manner consistent with excellent customer service standards.
  • Assist lifeguards in maintaining cleanliness of the pool area, locker rooms, and facility.
  • Assist with early childhood swim education programs and other swim classes offered to the community.
  • Assist with community activities.
  • May assist in determining chlorine content and pH value of water using a water testing kit and recording readings.
  • Attend training sessions, staff meetings, and in‑service training.
  • Follow emergency action plan and procedures during an emergency.
  • Observe, document, and report safety issues to appropriate supervisors.
  • Support and communicate with supervisors and co‑workers regarding routine and non‑routine work‑related issues or policies.
  • Assume a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
  • Practice safe work habits and contribute to the safety of self, co‑workers, and the general public.
  • Maintain a neat, professional appearance.
  • Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army policies and procedures.
  • Maintain the Code of Ethics policy established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
  • Perform other assignments or duties as directed.
Mental Demands

This position requires strong organizational skills, multitasking ability, and attention to detail. The work is fast‑paced and must be performed under pressure. The candidate must be self‑motivated, self‑directed, able to complete projects from start to finish, respond calmly and effectively to crisis situations, maintain discipline on repetitive tasks, exercise judgment, and take initiative. The role also requires working with limited supervision and in a team setting with other professionals.

Physical

Demands

Run, swim, paddle, and walk long distances; stand, sit, kneel, bend, stretch; lift, push, pull up to 100 pounds; climb, balance, stoop, crouch, crawl; driving required; occasional work on uneven or slippery surfaces. May need to work weekends, holidays, and evenings.

Communication Demands

Verbal and written communication with co‑workers, clients, and vendors; telephone use; written instruction; reading; visiting other sites; use of latest technologies.

Description of Work Environment

Routine outdoor weather conditions, sun exposure, extreme heat, uneven or slippery surfaces, periodic hazardous conditions.

Equipment Needs

Rescue hooks, rescue tubes, ring buoys, wet/dry vacuums, other pool maintenance equipment.
