Position SummaryA Security Guard maintains a safe environment for employees, clients, and visitors at the Kroc Center Hawaii, providing a visual security presence, monitoring the facility during hours of operation and closed hours, and executing emergency response procedures.
RequiredEducation and Experience
- Current valid State of Hawaii Guard Card.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- One‑two years of related work experience.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, follow detailed procedures, and provide good customer service.
Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.
Essential Functions- Provide a visual security presence by circulating among visitors, patrons, and employees to preserve order and protect property.
- Conduct hourly rounds to monitor facility activity, reporting problems to the Lead Security Guard.
- Check stairwells, fire exits, mechanical rooms, and fire extinguishers; record hazards and maintenance concerns.
- Monitor alarm systems, sign in and out keys and audiovisual equipment, admit staff and visitors, and handle deliveries.
- Be familiar with and execute the Center’s Emergency Action Plan and evacuation procedures as needed.
- Control crowds, apprehend or evict violators after warning, and secure the Center’s entrances after hours.
- Maintain a shift log, adhere to Salvation Army policies and procedures, and uphold the Code of Ethics for Kroc Center Hawaii.
- Attend staff meetings and other administrative meetings; maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Adjust computerized lighting and timers, and perform other duties as assigned.
- Prioritize and organize work assignments, taking projects from start to finish.
- Perform job functions with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy.
- Work in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining poise under pressure.
- Be self‑motivated, energetic, and enthusiastic, with a self‑directed schedule.
- Show genuine interest in providing quality service and respond calmly to crises.
- Maintain self‑discipline for repetitive tasks without sacrificing quality.

The position requires sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, crawling, standing, walking, manual dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, vision use, and driving a vehicle. Lifting or carrying 50‑75 pounds (occasionally more) is required, and work may occur on weekends, holidays, and evenings.
Communication DemandsRequires verbal and written communication with co‑workers, clients, vendors, and the public; includes phone calls, written requests, training, and documentation. Interaction must be positive, professional, and culturally sensitive.
Description of Work EnvironmentThe employee works outdoors and indoors in all types of weather conditions, including wet, humid, hot, and cold environments.
Equipment Needs- Digital camera, two‑way radio/cell phone, security duty belt, fire extinguisher (golf cart), flashlight/torch, mini first aid kit.
- Current valid State of Hawaii Guard Card.
- Ability to obtain First Aid, CPR, AED, and CIP (Crisis Intervention Program) certifications within the required time period.
