Position:Lifeguard I
Part Time, On Call, Hourly $14.50. FLSA Status:
Non‑Exempt. Report to Aquatic Manager.
The Lifeguard I is responsible for the health and safety of guests at the Kroc Center Hawaii aquatics facility. They ensure a safe and orderly swimming environment, carry out rescues as required, administer first aid, and assist with the day‑to‑day operations of the pool to keep the facility clean and enjoyable for members and guests. The Lifeguard I will demonstrate a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army and represent the Center in the community.
Requirements- American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification, First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
- A child labor certificate or "work permit" for minors until they reach 18 years of age.
Any equivalent combination of training and/or education in lieu of work experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.
Preferences- Swim Lesson Instruction.
- Previous customer service work experience.
- Provide lifesaving services, respond to emergencies, administer CPR/First Aid, and prepare and submit accident/incident reports.
- Offer excellent internal and external customer service, creating a positive experience for guests through professional and courteous behavior.
- Maintain swimming and rescue skills through conditioning swims and attendance at training sessions, staff meetings, and in‑service trainings.
- Assist the Aquatics Maintenance Technician and Aquatics Manager in maintaining the cleanliness of the pool area and locker rooms (scrubbing, washing, picking up litter, etc.).
- Caution swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards, enforcing and adhering to pool rules and regulations.
- Follow the emergency action plan and procedures established in the event of an emergency.
- Observe, document, and report safety issues to the appropriate supervisors.
- Communicate with supervisors and co‑workers regarding routine and non‑routine work‑related issues or policies.
- Assist in determining chlorine content and pH value of water using a water‑testing kit and recording readings.
- Assume a schedule of flexible working hours, including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
- Practice safe work habits and contribute to the safety of self, Kroc Center Hawaii co‑workers, and the general public.
- Maintain a neat, professional appearance.
- Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
- Maintain the Code of Ethics policy established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
- Perform other assignments or duties as directed.
This position requires strong organizational skills, the ability to multitask and be detail oriented, and to perform repetitive tasks without lowering quality. The work is fast‑paced, requiring poise under pressure and the ability to respond to crisis situations calmly and effectively. The candidate must be self‑motivated, self‑directed, and work with limited supervision in a team setting.
Physical DemandsFrequent running, swimming, paddling, and walking long distances; standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching, and/or crawling; lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds (and occasionally more) with assistance. Use of vision, manual dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination are required. Driving a vehicle may be required.
Communication DemandsCommunicates with co‑workers, clients, and vendors both verbally and in writing. Requires training/giving verbal and written instructions, responding to requests, and interacting positively with a diverse population. Familiarity with the latest communication technologies is a plus.
Work EnvironmentEmployee works outdoors under varying weather conditions, often exposed to sun and extreme heat. Work surfaces may be uneven or slippery and involve periodic exposure to hazardous conditions. Attendance at trainings and conferences in Hawaii may be required.
