Position Overview

The College of New Jersey’s Pre‑College Summer Program (PCSP) is seeking an experienced and collaborative Community Living Coordinator for Summer 2026. PCSP is a 10‑day, 9‑night inclusive residential experience designed for New Jersey high school students (ages 16–21) with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Participants live and learn on campus while engaging in academic, social, and career‑focused experiences that prepare them for college life, employment, and greater independence.

The Community Living Coordinator serves as a key member of the PCSP leadership team, reporting to the Community Living Supervisor and overseeing a team of Residential Support Specialists. This role ensures that the residential program provides a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where participants can develop independence, social skills, and confidence as members of a college community.

Please note:

This program is supported through federal funding. Program continuation and all associated staff positions are contingent upon the availability of these funds. In the event that funding is reduced or withdrawn, positions may be modified or rescinded.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise, train, and support Residential Support Specialists to ensure high‑quality, person‑centered support for all participants.
  • Oversee daily residential operations, including student supervision, safety procedures, and evening coverage.
  • Coordinate and implement social, recreational, and community‑building activities for program participants.
  • Support students in developing independent living and self‑management skills in areas such as personal care, organization, and social interaction.
  • Collaborate with the Community Living Supervisor, Academic Coordinators, and Program Director to ensure a cohesive, inclusive, and student‑centered experience.
  • Maintain documentation and communication related to student progress, support needs, and incident management.
  • Serve as a residential leadership presence during all on‑campus sessions, addressing participant concerns and promoting a positive community culture.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, Special Education, or a related field.
  • Experience in residential life, youth programming, or inclusive summer or transition programs.
  • Experience working with youths with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
Preferred
  • Master’s degree or teaching certification (any discipline).
  • Knowledge of inclusive education practices, transition planning, or Pre‑ETS frameworks.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to inclusion, safety, and the development of independence in young adults.

Persons with disabilities may request reasonable accommodations in order to perform the essential functions of the position. If the requested accommodation(s) cannot be made because it would cause the employer undue hardship, the applicant may not be eligible for the position.

Employment at TCNJ is contingent upon the successful completion of an applicable background check, reference checks, and verification of identity and authorization to work in the United States (Form I‑9).
