Summary:
Site Operations and Maintenance Service within a large consolidated clinical laboratory environment. This role requires multi-craft skills including mechanical repair, basic plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, lab casework, office cubicles and finishing. The position focuses on machine shop fabrication and electrical distribution systems, control circuits, and related electrical equipment in the facility. The role assists in daily management and repair of operating and utility systems including lab equipment.
This is a day shift, Monday–Friday, with on-call emergency coverage on a rotating basis. It is an essential position and requires the employee to work during all weather conditions.
Reports to:
Maintenance Supervisor or Operations Manager.
- Always follow safe work practices.
- Perform regular PM inspections of facilities and equipment to identify and resolve issues.
- Manage and prioritize workload with minimal supervision.
- Hours of work will be decided by management and may change at various times.
- Seek help from colleagues and management when necessary.
- Assume primary role for electrical projects, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair work.
- Operate shop machine tools (lathe, milling machine, sandblaster).
- Conduct repairs on building structures and systems, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems.
- Install, move, and help set up new equipment.
- Diagnose problems and execute solutions.
- Monitor and manage site conditions and HVAC systems through JCI/Metasys.
- Document all installation, repair, and maintenance activities in CxAlloy.
- Plan, execute, and complete project work as assigned.
- Work overtime as needed to respond to emergencies or off-hours maintenance work.
- Locate necessary repair parts and communicate with Manager or Director to purchase.
- Assist Manager and Director in meeting operating and financial goals, facility objectives and laboratory needs.
- Seek to continuously improve and develop maintenance practices to enhance systems and equipment reliability.
- Knowledge and understanding of OSHA safety guidelines.
- HS/GED with 5+ years maintenance and operations experience, preferably in a laboratory setting.
- Ability to respond effectively to changing demands; strong organization, communication, and time management skills; strong customer service and teamwork.
- Good knowledge and understanding of NEC.
- Basic working knowledge of building automation systems, preferably JCI Metasys.
- Strong ability to read and understand electrical/mechanical/plumbing/architectural drawings, specifications, schematics and manuals.
- Strong machine shop skills including ability to fabricate parts using milling machine and lathe.
- Ability to solder, braze, and use arc welder; TIG welding skills are a plus.
- Strong working knowledge of electrical starters, MCC panels, main distribution breakers, switch gear, and transformers.
- Basic knowledge of fire alarm systems, photovoltaic power generation equipment, emergency generators, and transfer switches.
- Knowledge of operation, repair and maintenance of air handlers, exhaust fans, and air compressors.
- Experience in basic plumbing, carpentry/painting, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to safely operate hand and power tools.
- Computer literacy and ability to find job-related information online; ability to contact technical support if necessary.
- Physical ability to climb ladders and use man lifts, work in hot/cold environments, confined spaces, wear half-face respirators, lift 50 lbs., and bend, twist and stoop.
- Effective written and verbal English communication.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Regularly sit, use hands, and communicate verbally.
- Occasionally stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
