Pharmacy Technician - PRN (Healthcare)

Under the direction of the pharmacist, performs technical functions in the Pharmacy Department to assist in providing quality pharmaceutical care to patients.

• Answers the telephone promptly, identifying self and department. Relays information and directs calls to appropriate personnel.
• Assists in inventory management: processes orders from wholesaler, returns drugs to stock, monitors for outdated medications in all locations. Uses cost control methods including contract compliance monitoring to minimize drug expenses. Removes recalled medications from stock. Conducts scheduled inventory of pharmaceuticals.
• Automated Dispensing Machine processes: accurately refills automated dispensing cabinets utilizing barcode scanning technology. Stock outs are refilled in a timely manner. Ensures medications on outdated tracking are removed and restocked prior to expiration. Performs basic troubleshooting and runs reports.
• Medication distribution processes: restocks crash carts and other kits. Repackaging and properly labeling medications. Clinic, interdepartmental and external medication sales and invoicing.
• Paperwork processing and billing:
  Prior Authorizations for clinics; monitors daily charge report, Pyxis reports, monthly interdepartmental charge report, prescription receipts, returns reimbursements, invoices, filing, reverse distributor, narcotic discrepancy report.
• Point of Sale: appropriately manages all prescription and OTC transactions; cash drawer and credit card; opening and end of day processes. Processes new and refill prescriptions accurately and in a timely manner utilizing available technology. Hospice prescription bubble packing.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) required.
• Institutional experience preferred.
• MO Technician registration required.
