Operational Support Officer (Court Usher Focus)
Exeter Law Courts, Southernhay Gardens, Exeter, EX1 1JL
£12.86 per hour
Full-time | Temporary (Approx. 6 months)

About the Role
We are currently recruiting Operational Support Officers to join a busy court environment at Exeter Law Courts. This role is primarily focused on court ushering duties, supporting the smooth and professional running of court hearings, alongside some general administrative responsibilities.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is confident, organised, and calm under pressure, and who is interested in working within the justice system.
Key Responsibilities
Court Ushering (Primary Focus)
Acting as the main point of contact for court users, ensuring a professional and respectful environment
Calling parties into courtrooms for hearings
Keeping parties appropriately separated when required
Providing clear updates to court users regarding hearing times, delays, and room changes
Preparing and setting up courtrooms ahead of hearings
Supporting judges, legal professionals, and court staff to ensure proceedings run smoothly
Managing waiting areas and ensuring order within the court building
Handling sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism
Administrative Duties (Secondary)
Inputting and updating information on internal systems
Responding to general enquiries (in person, email, and phone)
Managing emails and correspondence
Carrying out general office and clerical tasks
Skills & Experience
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to remain calm and professional in a busy, sometimes pressurised environment
Good organisational skills and attention to detail
Confident using IT systems
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Proactive with a positive, "can-do" attitude
About You

Comfortable working in an environment where sensitive and sometimes difficult matters are discussed

This position is subject to an Enhanced DBS check
The role is fully site-based (no hybrid working)
