Your role

The Legal Administration Team supports more than 1,700 magistrates across the South West region.

The team's work is essential to the administration of justice and includes:

  • arranging magistrates' sittings;
  • supporting the training, appraisal and development of the judiciary; and
  • delivering a range of statutory and operational support services required to enable magistrates to perform their roles effectively.

This role will involve working closely with the Head of Legal Operations, Senior Legal Managers, Legal Team Manager sand their wider team of lawyers, as well as the staff who support District Judges (Magistrates' Courts) across the South West.

The post holder will provide high-quality administrative and executive support, including diary and inbox management, meeting coordination, action tracking, preparation of reports and briefing materials, and the collation and analysis of data to support decision-making. This may include responding to senior judicial, ministerial and media enquiries.

The role is varied, fast-paced and rewarding, sitting at the heart of Legal Operations in the South West. It offers the opportunity to work closely with senior leaders, engage with a wide range of stakeholders and make a meaningful contribution to the justice system. By supporting effective decision-making, regional priorities and the judiciary, the successful candidate will help ensure that courts continue to deliver an efficient and effective service to the public.

Your skills and experience

To be successful in this role, you should have the following:

  • Experience of working in an administrative role in a customer focussed environment
  • Proficient with IT and Microsoft Software packages
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

Working Arrangements & Further Information

Non-contractual hybrid working may be available. Hybrid working arrangements will be determined by the business and will only be available when it has been established that delivering the service from home can be done effectively.

Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week.

HMCTS welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns, where they meet the demands of the role and business needs and are agreed prior to appointment. All applications for part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns will be considered in accordance with the MoJ’s Flexible Working policy.

Due to business needs any agreed flexible working patterns must include requirement to work full days on Thursdays and Fridays as a minimum.

Occasional travel to other courts

For this post, some travel within south west region will be required.
