Continued project wins have created an opening for a Senior Planner within a growing consultancy in Exeter. The team is busy, well established and keen to add someone who can take genuine ownership of instructions.

The position offers the chance to manage your own South West portfolio and work closely with Directors on larger strategic instructions. It is suited to someone who wants visible responsibility without losing the support of experienced colleagues.

You will work across residential development, rural sites, commercial schemes, appeals and local plan promotion. Depending on seniority, you will lead or support instructions from initial appraisal to determination and beyond.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare clear planning appraisals, statements and strategic advice.
• Manage planning applications and coordinate technical inputs.
• Maintain regular, professional communication with clients and project teams.
• Negotiate constructively with local planning authorities and other stakeholders.
• Support larger instructions while steadily increasing your own project responsibility.

Mrtpi or working towards; consultancy or local authority experience; organised and commercially aware. You should also be organised, dependable and able to explain planning issues in straightforward language. The business is interested in people who value good advice and long-term client relationships rather than unnecessary internal politics.

The salary is £39,000–£49,000. The wider package includes hybrid working, pension, bonus, subscriptions and a clear route to Principal Planner. Exact arrangements will depend on experience and will be discussed openly during the process.
