Health and Safety Advisor Exeter

We are innovative!
That’s why we need people like you to help us. People who enjoy finding new ways to solve problems and get things done.

We're looking for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join our team, supporting the successful delivery of our South West Water contract.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working closely with operational teams, building strong relationships and making a genuine difference to the way health and safety is embedded across our projects.

This is a hands‑on, site‑based role where you'll provide practical advice and guidance, helping teams deliver work safely, efficiently and in line with legislative and company standards. You'll play an important part in promoting a positive safety culture while supporting continuous improvement across the contract.

Here are some of the activities you’ll be involved in…
  • Carrying out site inspections, audits and monitoring compliance with health and safety requirements.
  • Providing practical health and safety advice and support to operational teams and managers.
  • Supporting the development and delivery of health and safety objectives across the contract.
  • Assisting with the investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending improvements.
  • Providing health and safety input into tenders, bids and project planning activities.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve systems, processes and working practices.
  • Developing and promoting health and safety initiatives, sharing best practice across the contract.
  • Carrying out ABC (Attitude, Behaviour and Culture) tours to encourage positive safety behaviours.
  • Supporting and promoting proactive hazard reporting and a strong safety culture.
  • Building positive relationships with colleagues, clients and other stakeholders to ensure health and safety remains at the forefront of everything we do.
We’d love to hear from you if…

You have significant experience in a Health & Safety Advisor role and enjoy working alongside operational teams, providing practical, solutions‑focused advice that helps people work safely and confidently.

You'll have a sound understanding of current health and safety legislation and experience working within the utilities, water, civil engineering or wider infrastructure sector, where you'll be comfortable engaging with site teams and challenging unsafe behaviours in a positive and constructive way.

You'll be an excellent communicator with the ability to build credibility at all levels, influencing and supporting colleagues while maintaining a collaborative approach to improving health and safety performance.

You'll be proactive, organised and confident managing your own workload, with the ability to prioritise site visits, investigations and improvement initiatives across a busy operational environment.

A NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (or equivalent) is essential, together with Tech IOSH membership or working towards Graduate IOSH.

A full UK driving licence is essential due to the site‑based nature of the role.
