Position: Visitor Experience Officer 27,612 pa

Being a Visitor Experience Officer for the National Trust is all about people – connecting with them, inspiring them, and making sure they have the best possible day when they come to visit.

Salary
: £27,612 per annum/ £14.16 per hour

Contract
:
This is a fixed term contract due to end when the postholder returns to the role. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than to the 31 May 2027. The role will involve working regular weekends and occasional evenings. It will involve working on Castle Drogo’s programming, marketing and making sure each visitor has a great experience when they visit.

Hours/ working pattern
:
Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

This role is required to work with vulnerable groups including children and any offer of employment or volunteering is subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.

You’ll be reporting to the Visitor Experience Manager working as part of the Visitor Experience team at Castle Drogo on Dartmoor.

Castle Drogo stands above the ancient woodlands of the Teign Gorge. Inspired by the rugged Dartmoor tors that surround it, the castle was designed and built by renowned 20th‑century architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. Outside there is a Lutyens designed garden which is colourful in all seasons, and there are miles of pathways and abundant nature to explore and discover in the Teign Gorge.

What

you'll be doing

As Visitor Experience Officer, your main focus will be providing a great service for visitors. This will include leading a fun and engaging offer for families, especially during Easter, Summer and Christmas.

You’ll help make sure our information for visitors is clear and interesting, including updating signage, the website, social media and other marketing channels.

You’ll be supervising and supporting volunteers and assisting the day to day running of the castle. You’ll be checking presentation on site and helping to lead the events and activities to bring Castle Drogo’s story to life and share the work of the National Trust on Dartmoor.

Who we're looking for
  • Used to multiple deadlines and managing your own workload
  • Skilled in organisation and planning, with a good eye for detail
  • Good at talking to, and getting on with, all kinds of people
  • A hard–working and committed team player
  • Comfortable with IT:
    Microsoft Office, as well as web and social media
  • Experienced in producing interpretive materials, such as displays and exhibitions, and marketing or promotional materials
  • Familiar with health and safety procedures
